Im new to the forum but I have been using/viewing the site for probably the last month. I'm in my last year of highschool and I'm looking for a new pair of full sized (closed) headphones. I will be using them at home, in school, and traveling so they need to be at least half portable. I listen to a variety of music styles (pop,metal,dubstep,rock,indie,hip-hop, etc.) on my iPhone 4s and pc ( I think I'm going to buy a fiio e6 also).

Yes, I always use the best quality file availably.

Check out the AKG K167 Tiesto thread. Could just be the new flavor of the month, but they do sound by the reviews to be a serious new contender in the closed sub $200 market.

I like Ultrasones, myself. I'm guessing from the genres you listed that you want an engaging fun sound, so consider the HFI-780. The Sennheiser HD-25 is also a nice option.

I'me in the same exact situation myself, I've had my eyes on the Beyerdynamic DT770 headphones for a while now, I recommend you look into them.

If by full size the need to be over ear, I vote for the Philips Uptown, if the can be on ear, I vote for the V Moda M80

I have heard many good things about MrSpeakers Mad Dogs, which are $253 USD without shipping on his website. I'd look up some reviews and comparisons to see how they compare against the earlier recommendations.

Really comfortable and sound quality is amazing. I switched due to sibilance reasons of the HD25. I was expecting some loss in sound quality but it's non-existant, an upgrade I suppose.

Mad Dogs, HD-25 like some guys said up there. Also consider the V-Moda M-80.

If you're buying in Canada, buy used from canukaudiomart and you will be able to get headphones 1-2 notches higher in quality, save a lot on shipping and not pay taxes & import duties.  Get HD600- by far the best bang for the buck imo (and in the opinion of David Mahler's amazing roundup).  If you must get closed, SRH940 are the best I've heard under $500 & SRH840 are the best under $250 imo.  But neither are as good as HD600- in your shoes I'd get a great pair of open and an inexpensive set of iems for traveling.  The ambient sounds when you travel will introduce so much noise that even the very best closed headphones will be severely compromised.

If you're considering the Philips Uptown, this can be had for CAD 49.99 at Winners. Its not a bad deal at all although I read a lot of good reviews about its sibling, the Downtowns. This comes in 10 dollars less albeit an On-ear phone.
