In answer to my own original post, i decided to buy the hifiman re-600 which was on very special offer in the UK and while the er2xr is better overall, the re-600 is amazing on vocals and in this one respect preferable to the ex2xr (imo) - i had to play with the tips and in the end settled on acs small/medium (triple flange) tips or spinfit cp-240 (double-flange). I have discovered that flangled tips are the only ones that give me a good seal.
