Best dac/amp for PS4
Feb 21, 2017 at 4:15 AM Post #16 of 35
The PS4 is capable of running any DAC and mic setup at the same time. Please do not limit yourself to the MIxamp. All you need is this for your 3.5mm mic to plug in.

(I have this and it fits the original PS4 USB slot perfectly)

Trust me, it works fine. Setup is simple.

Set PS4 output to optical.
Set Input Device to the USB device I listed above
Set Output Device to "TV or Amplifier"
Adjust mic volume
Done

Since you dont care about surround capability, theres MUCH better options than a Mixamp. Also, the sound quality is MUCH better than the controller port.

What are the better options than a mixamp? I purchased a USB audio adapter it is a audio technica one and I tested it and the mic port doesn't even work I had to turn my voice volume all the way up and also put the mic very close to my mouth to even hear anything. So I think it was a faulty one

The Mixamps main selling point is its chat mixing and surround capability, however its not the strongest amplifier. Since you dont need surround capability, you can use pretty much any home headphone amp with optical input. Theres thousands of choices.

As for the Audio Technica adapter, Im pretty sure it has volume control and mic muting buttons, did you check those?

It does have volume control but it doesn't do anything I turn it all the way up and even still can't hear my voice. But So if I wanted to use a schiit magni 2 and modi 2 with my PS4 and sennheiser game one that would work? I'm guessing you just have the magni 2 connected to the PS4 optical and the modi 2 connected to the magni 2 with RCA cables and then the headset audio cord connected to the magni 2 amp and the mic cord plugged into that USB adapter you suggested? Because modi 2 has a USB input for computers and stuff is that just an optional thing?

The RCA between the two units isn't the issue. Im talking about the optical cable connection from the PS4 to the Modi 2 Uber.

The normal Modi 2 does not have an optical input. How did you plan on connecting the PS4 to the Modi 2?

Magni 2 connected to the PS4 through its optical input. Or does it not have optical? I thought it did

Edit: I figured the magni 2 connected to PS4 via optical and then modi 2 connected to the magni 2 via RCA. Is this incorrect?

Incorrect;

It goes Source>DAC>Amp>Headphones

PS4>Modi 2 Uber>Magni 2>Headphones

You need optical to connect the PS4 to Modi 2 Uber, then RCAs to connect the Modi 2 Uber to Magni 2.

Hope this helps...

Would this work instead of the modi 2 uber? I am just trying to find a cheaper workaround without getting worse audio quality because $150 for modi 2 uber is too high for me

That wont work, it doesnt have an optical input.

BUT, as I said before, the PS4 CAN output all audio through USB, so in theory it can work, but there are downsides to using USB audio, because theres no way to tell the quality that you're getting.

I suggest just spending the extra $50 on the Uber honestly. There isnt much out there even at that low of price range.

Thanks for your input mike I think I'm just gonna save some money up and go with the magni 2 and modi 2 uber like you suggested as I've heard lots of good things about it. I have ordered that sabrent USB adapter ahead to make sure it will work with my headset and I will post results as well!
