As I play some games in competition, I want the best headphones for gaming (music doesn't matter). I intend to use it with an Auzen X-Fi Prelude and possibly also with a tube amp if it helps with the sound quality in gaming.

From what I've seen, the ATH-A900 seem to be the best closed headphones from Audio-Technica, the DT 770 (closed) and the DT 880 (semi-open) seem to be the best (semi-)closed headphones from beyerdynamic. Sennheiser don't seem to have high-end closed headphones. Am I missing some brands and headphones?

Well, what do you reckon would be the best headphones to get for pure gaming? How does the ATH-A900 match up with the DT 770/880? What is the difference between the DT 770/880? All with gaming in the back of your mind.

Thanks for your help

The DT880 is good for gaming, but it is not at all closed. The semi-open is more like open with a bonus. It will not block noise significantly.

Beyer dt770/80 has been and continues to be the best in gaming............a bonus would be to sometime in the future - have Headphile to mod. them into Darthbeyers which will turn them into 'phones that are excellent for music.
Normally you can dicker with eBay seller go get price down to $145.........ditto with Guitar Center.

DT770 are an excellent choice. I also recommend the Ultrasone ProLine 750. The S-Logic will make the sounds come from all angles.

Ok, so lets drop the DT880 from the discussion if they are not so good in blocking noise.

So far you all seem to rate the DT770 over the ATH-A900's, thats good to hear.

How does the DT770 match up to the Ultrasone ProLine 750 S-Logic?

I can't seem to find anywhere the answer to this. Does someone know?

How is the Ultrasone ProLine 750 rated for gaming in general?

Proline 2500 worked fairly well for gaming, so I'd supposed Proline 750 would also...but I'd recommend going with the tried-and-true dt770.

I've actually been wondering the same thing, but does anyone have anything to say about the Proline 550? They are $210 I beleive the lowest I saw which is very close to the same price range and being for gaming with the s-logic, would they be worthy to be considered as well? The 750 is a bit more expensive and out of my price range.

I don't really care about the price, as long as its really good for gaming (for example good positional sound). I assume a DT770 with amp is better than the A900 right? How are the DT770 compared to Ultrasone PROLine 750?

Same questions, and also added question; will I benefit from using an amp with the DT770 or Ultrasone PROLine 750 for gaming? thx

DT770 need to be amp driven to get the best out of them. The PROline 750's seem to perform close to DT770 without the use of an amp but some reviewers of the PROline seemed to have issues with lacking high mids and detail and the unpredictability of the S-Logic tech, but even when you consider that, the main negative of the PROline 750 is that they are expensive. I would prefer the A900 over the PROline 750 and if money was not an issue I'd go with the DT770 with an amp.
