Best classical recordings...ever!

Do any of you guys use qobuz for streaming? Recently bought into it and I'm over the moon. The SQ is very good at premium with the cd quality - dynamic and punchy. The lay out is on another level to spotify, you can really enjoy the experience of a recording better with the added booklet details in adobe format. It also lets you browse through lists of new releases, award winners or best sellers. Brilliant for classical music fans and the back catalogue is fantastic. Costing me £20 a month, but to have all of these brand new titles at my finger-tips.. I'm saving a fortune. I've A/B'd the quality compared with my CD player (through the same audiolab dac) and although they are different, neither is better in pure quality measures. The qobuz is livelier - my cd player is slightly duller. But my old vintage Technics is a warm machine.

Check it out folks :)

I've been using qobuz for a few years now. They had some financial trouble a while ago, but glad they survived. Being able to organise and access the playlist in album format was what made me switch it over from spotify.
I use the 4.99 per month sub (320kbps) and save a bit more dosh to spend on CDs. Checked out most recommendations made on this and other threads on it.

Can't you find most albums on Spotify though?

Indeed, can't fault Spotify in that regard. Though some labels such as Chandos aren't in any hurry to have them on spotify.

I listen to most music these days via streaming and so want the best SQ possible. Qobuz is better, almost like a much better dac upgrade to put it into hifi terms. But also, the format and browsing is more focused for specific music genres. You can choose through press award winners, most popular, new releases etc. Spotify in contrast chooses what it thinks you may want to listen to and recommends based on that. The ability to able to look inside the cd booklet is also a massive bonus as this is all part of enjoying a recording imo.

Yes I'd read about that. So pleased it survived as it is a godsend for folk like me who loved Spotify but was never bought on the SQ. There is a big difference to my ears in regards to dynamics and detail with qobuz.

Can anyone here chime in on the recordings of Mahler's 5th and 7th, by Gustavo Dudamel and his Bolivar Youth Orchestra (Venezuela)? The 5 and 7 have received pretty good reviews on Amazon, but my Mahler collection doesn't have any of his recordings of Mahler.

Here is a new fresh recording of J.S. Bach's BWV 42, 85 and 23. The Sinfonia which act as a prelude to the cantatas is absolutely lovely and so very well played. The singers performance is top shelf as well.
The recording is very well done, there is a clear placement of the musicians and you can sense the depth of the hall, yet every instrument is very present and real.
http://www.soundliaison.com/studio-masters/253-bach-live-edition-1        and it is on special offer at the moment, 10$.

I always hear classical recordings are clipped or has some kind of distortion at loud passages, like saturation or overload. Maybe 99% of my CDs or digital downloads does that.

This mostly with headphone, in speaker system, I don't hear it maybe speakers are more forgiving?

I am just wondering if something is wrong in the headphone system, I have tried HD800 paired with HDVD800, also with recently Sony ZH1ES + Z1R phone...

Or, if someone can suggest me best SQ of Saint-Saëns Symphony No. 3 or like Mahler Symphony Np. 8, that does not clipped at loudest ending?

Your headphone drivers are probably over-stressed. Listening too loudly, or perhaps time to renew the drivers/HP. Alternatively, check your HP amp.

Mahler 8: Boulez/Staatskapelle Berlin; Solti/Chicago, Vienna Staatsoper Chorus
