Best classical recordings...ever!

Still leaves room for Pollini & Levitt in the late sonatas, and Perahia for the odd few he has recorded.

Perahia hasn't been on my radar for Beethoven sonatas -- Pf Ctos yes (I have his magisterial set with Haitink and the Concertgebouw). He's my pick for Chopin, some Schubert (D960 is fabulous with him), and of course, Mozart (his pf ctos with ECO are my references, along with Geza Anda's set with the Camaerata Acad Mozarteum).

Turns out he's recorded more than half of them, mostly in 1980s I think. The set above is very good.
He even conducts on this disc...

Very nice, thanks, shall look into these. Should be interesting. I got Goode's Beeth late sonatas #28-32 from iTunes. Exceptional performances.

An old warhorse that sounds terrific:

Yeah, but you're a pianist, not a layperson schmuck like moi

Besides, his many strengths make his weaknesses seem small, in my book.

I find his Chopin quite well-paced, at least these ones:

What are people's thoughts on the Mahler set by Neumann/Czech Phil?

I have heard/own only his 5th, Czech and also with the Leipzigers. Both pretty good, a bit restrained.  Below Barbirolli and Bernstein/VPO, I think.

I've only lightly heard the Kubelik/Bavarian Radio Symphony set. The Neumann/CPO set isn't available on my streaming service. I've listened to the 5th on YT, and I think 'light is a good description.

Hmnn I will focus on Bernstein's set - it's a cheaper too if I end up buying it.

Cheers gents.

There are 2 key Bernstein sets. One is with a mix of orchestras. The other is his NY Phil, first cycle.
