What makes you think that? Open up a word document in a plain text editor and see if it is anywhere near comprehensible. (A plain text editor is something like notepad, etc) How did you think words were being transferred in your computer or through any wireless protocol?
 
The disconnect between how much society relies on technology and how little people understand about it is troubling to say the least.
