Beats by Dre Question

If you factor in everything the Beats have going for them besides sound quality (appearance, if you actually think the look good, comfort, AFC, etc), $170 isn't atrocious.  I think the OP did alright.

Yeah, $170 isn't bad. Not my cup of tea for that price range but not bad I guess. I'd pay about $100 for the studios personally and $150 for the pro if I wanted them but there are just other headphones at that price I'd prefer. But that doesn't matter, I hope you enjoy them OP. For the couple of days I've spent with the studios, they were pretty fun with the right music.

Do YOU have any favourite songs to play on them? Since you already have them, you might as well try them out with what you usually listen to. Some headphones excel in certain aspects and fail miserably in others. It's up to you to figure out whether they're right for you or not.

While we're at it, you might as well list the genres of music that you usually listen to.

I was just wondering if anyone knew any songs that really show where they excel lol.

They're claimed to be tuned for rap and hip-hop, so you could try that. From my experience with my friend's Solos they sounded okay with his K-Pop songs. Why not try Dr. Dre's songs since they're named after him anyways? Eg. Nuthin' but a 'G' Thang  (No I'm not being racist I personally like this song)

Sound quality is very subjective. Your experience with headphones holds much more credibility than what other people say about them. That's why I said you should try them out with songs that you usually listen to.

Man some of these people are NOT noob friendly LMAO

It's not about being noob friendly or not. We want you to get the best gear possible for the best possible price (because we love you), and the Beats simply aren't that.

But since you already have them, enjoy them! I'd imagine that any bass heavy music is decent. They aren't my thing, but beats would get most people's head nodding, I'd imagine. And when you're ready to upgrade, come back for knowledgeable advice.

They don't particularly excel in anything, but they are definitely tuned to emphasize bass. You will want bass-heavy music as well, like mentioned above. Music that require better technicalities and instrument separation in a headphone will sound all wrong, but music focusing on the "beats" (hohoho) should do just fine. Rap, hip-hop, the usual pop fare should be OK, just don't try listening to classical or something on these lol.

There's a great deal of hate for anything Beats on this forum for a variety of reasons. They're sold as "pro-quality" or "studio-quality" cans, despite the glaring fact that because of their huge emphasis on bass on loss of mids they'd never be anywhere close to a studio headphone, which is generally neutral-sounding. Also, they're extremely overpriced for the SQ you get. The Solos are a fun headphone (not nice, but fun) at $50, but you see them in the stores at $200. The Studios are approaching good SQ for those who like bass emphasis, and match up with phones around $100. The Pros are pretty well-built and sound decent, actually, but are a good value at $300, tops.

However, just because they're overpriced doesn't mean you can't enjoy them. You got them at more than most of us would pay for them and the fact that you mentioned that they sound good to you just ticked some people off who are used to high-end cans. You mostly came from cheap earbuds or headphones and are astounded by the sound quality. The people on this forum can be attacking because of a bad history with Monster Cable, a disdain for Beats, and for numerous other reasons.

However, this does not justify in any way how they treated you at the beginning of the thread. As you mentioned, Head-Fi has vast amounts of headphone knowledge and the most we can hope is that you'll return and eventually join our ranks as a true audiophile. Attacking your purchase instead of offering help does not encourage you to come back.

I apologize for the actions of the few in this thread who chose to attack. While we almost universally would've gone for something different here, there's no reason to harm you for it. We hope to see you back here someday when you're ready to enter our realm and lose all money forever into audiophilia.

Sincerely,

I was actually thinking about getting the Audio T. M50's but I just really wanted some bass for the rap/dubstep I listen to. I have noticed that Kanye West, Dr. Dre, things like that sound GREAT to me,they also sound good in my opinion for songs by people like John Mayer, but I think they really shine in bass heavy music.

If you don't mind getting IEMs, and you enjoy headphones with emphasis on the mid to low end of the spectrum, Monster's Turbines retail for about $180. On sale they go for about $100 usually.
