Bdynamic dt 770 or HD595

i've read that the beyers have ample bass whereas the hd595 are a little thin in that department. i used to own the hd595, and if i had to buy over again, i'd take a chance on the dt770.

I like them both, but prefer the DT770. It's meatier and it isolates you from outside sounds better.

Basically, you can't go wrong with either. I think of them as gateway drugs to the high-end.

These were my first 2 phones since I discovered head-fi. I also preferred the 770s. I got mine at guitar center for $150 during a sale (which are often). I bet if you bargain you could get them down to $150.

Guitar Centre stores will dicker dt770 (you want the 80 ohm) down to $145-150......there are also eBay vendors who will sell them at around $145. The Beyer dt770/80 are easily your best choice........and you can eventually have Larry (Headphile) convert them into Darthbeyers.
Alternatively, Larry will sell you new dt770/80 for $145 - as long as you have the conversion done at the same time.

I owned both and hated the DT770's but loved the HD595's. I just felt the DT770's bass was overpowering, the midrange was to recessed and the highs to sparkly. On the other hand while the bass of the HD595 might have been slightly lacking the midrange sounded great and the highs had only a slight bit grain but overall sounded great as well. The soundstage the the 595's was also far better.

< Hates DT770. HD595 was fine for the time I used it. HD595 is more musical and cleaner sounding - DT770 is a bass monster, and its not even that good of a bass.

the dt770 is the technically superior headphone. now which sound you prefer is a different story. but if you like your bass, you'll want to go for the dt770s.

How is it superior? Its frequency response is horrific.

Hmm...I am looking to buy new headphones.

I have been reading up here, and have chosen between the Beyerdynamic DT770s (80 ohm) or the HD595s. Both are the same price, and I was wondering what would be the best for the money.

Thanks!

EDIT: The 595s are 180 on amazon and the Bdynamics are 199 on guitarcenter.

Why is it just DT770 or HD595? Consider DT250 (80 ohm) or Ultrasone Proline 550, 650, 750 as alternatives to the DT770. All are closed, all offer more balanced bass, I haven't heard the DT250 but many Beyer fans say they are a much better fon than the Dt770. Any how just a thought, I think that a narrow choice betwen the DT770 and the HD595 seems a slightly strange conclusion, very different fons and there are a lot of options in between. The DT 770 will require an external amp to sound any where near their best, regardless of whether it is the 250 or 80 ohm version from what I have read.
The DT250 80 ohm doesn't and neither do the Ultrasones.

Good luck

How is the DT770 technically superior??? I personally think it is the HD595 that's technically superior due to its open design.

It's superior in that the DT770 is better if you like it more.

Geez, malos, there are no absolutes in this business. Among good headphones, there are just preferences.
