The English language, as used in the past, was easy to interpret. Words and phrases had a set meaning, and people adhered to standards of grammar and punctuation, oh yes, spelling too. In the future, how will scholars interpret late 20th/early 21st century English usage? "Intensive purposes"? "Lulz"? What's a "lulz" anyway?? I can only imagine that emoticons will be interpreted as a regression to pictographic writing, and as a sign of the decline of our civilization. I can see the PhD theses already...

I voted that way because the bottom bar looked really sad and small and I don't like seafood.

I always thought it was pronounced bass as well, and that "base" was just some silly way to say it! haha @ me...

Good that I learned something, though

Damn, i thought you were talking about how it's pronounced and voted Base before reading down. :/
I am more curious as to how it's pronounced. Isn't bass supposed to be pronounced as bass, why do people pronounce it as base?

English is an old, mongrel language with more exceptions than rules.

This shouldn't be a poll, since it's not a matter of opinion. These are two completely different words... and only one of them fits the definition you gave, no matter how many people use the wrong word in their posts.
