After reading a lot of posts on this forum, I figured it was time I finally joined. I've decided it's time to buy a pair of on-ear headphones after using earbuds (some good ones at that) for the past couple years. I'm looking for a smaller set of on-ear headphones that look good. I've tried the beats solo (and I agree they suck sq wise) but they look great and are the perfect size. I have also tried the Sennheiser PX-200 II, I like the sound, but it could have more bass, and the size is too small. So basically I'm looking for:

  1. Something similar in size and looks to the beats
  2. Something similar in sq to the PX-200 IIs, but with a little more bass.
  3. Something that looks cool, without sacrificing too much sq!

Any suggestions would be great. I'm willing to spend up to around $150.
So far these forums have been really helpful

this could be a stupid question, but would any of these need amps? I probably should've mentioned this earlier, but I am gonna use them mainly for my iPod while I'm on the subway. So they need to be portable, hence hopefully no amp haha.

When I take my full cans mobile, I run my D2000 with a portable amp  (MiniBox-D) but I can also use them without.

Sounds better amplified... Yes I do lug these around (my office cans) sometimes when I forget my IEM at home...

AKG is a reputable company, go for it!

...then it probably is.  The seller has a history of selling tons of Sennheiser CXs, Sonys, and "genuine" iPod earbuds.  I'd tread with caution, or better yet, avoid!

I would recommend taking a look at the Phiaton MS300. The MS400 are the best Beats alternative I've encountered to date but the MS300 is a bit smaller and a chunk cheaper. People in the know say that the sound of the MS400 is slightly more refined, but frankly it could stand to be a little rougher around the edges.
