B&O H7 Bluetooth Discussion and Impressions

I've updated mines two days ago using the computer and don't hear artifacts or something strange......

but after doing the update, I uninstalled the b&o app

in your case, I dont understand why you don't uninstall the app? have you tried to do it? if you have done, still have problems?

It has nothing to do with the app itself.  It's whatever B&O did to update the headphone to TALK to the app.  Yes, the artifact happens w/ all bluetooth connections.  My MacBook Pro, my iPad Pro, my OnePlus 3T...all of them.  BeoPlay App installed or not.  Once the headphone is updated to the latest firmware, it starts.  At least w/ the three sets I've had before the last one (which is not going to get updated obviously).  It has also been proven that the sound is variable...louder on some sets than others...and obviously I've seen this because I've had so many pairs.

Anyway...moral of the story.  Don't update the headphone firmware unless you're having issues with something else.

Well here's the deal.  I can 100% confirm that if you don't UPDATE the headphones w/ the BeoPlay update software, the clicking and weird sounds DOES NOT appear.  As soon as you update it, they are back.  It has to be something with how the software interacts w/ the headphone allowing it to talk to the BeoPlay App.  So if you buy these headphones, DO NOT update them, and just skip the app.  LOL.

I bought my 4th pair, this time for my wife who's going to be traveling and I just haven't updated them and they don't have the crappy noises going on.  So that stuff B&O is feeding us about sound floors and whatnot is a bunch of BS.

I can no longer check, since I've already returned them. Noises were the main issue, but the awful touch interface was a deal breaker by itself. And the fact that you have to even think about installing an app on your computer and firmware updates was not ideal. Pairing also wasn't perfect. I might have been able to live with the sound quality, but that's a big 'if'.

It feels really great to go back to my trusty old H6v2, but my wish remains unfulfilled: give me pair of headphones that it as good as the H6v2 in every way, but without the wire.

I'm hoping the to-be-released W1 Beats Studio headphones will be great. My main concern there is if the sound quality will be at least close to the H6v2.

Huh?  How else are you going to update the headphones?  The update app is done via computer just like every single other BT headphone that has been released.  The app on your device is only for tweaking the sound, which I don't care about because I love the sound of the H7.

I also haven't had many issues w/ the touch interface.  Maybe it's because I stream most of my music, so the quality is all virtually the same so I don't have to do much in terms of volume adjustments, but when I swipe forwards or backwards it seems to work flawlessly for me.  I really do wonder if you got a bad pair, because as I've mentioned I've had a few pairs of H7s now and I haven't had any issues w/ the interface.

I do agree that it doesn't sound as good as the H6v2...my personal sound favorite as well, but the added comfort of the thicker pads make it easier to wear the H7...which is a good compromise IMO.  Also, most of the time I'm wired to come desktop amp anyway, and in wired mode, they are quite similar to the H6v2 which a touch more bass.

One way to update the headphones is in the background, without the user having to install an app or do anything. I believe the headphones with Apple's W1 chip do this. Oh, and wired headphones also don't require updates. :)

About the touch interface: on one occasion I was lying in bed listening to music in the middle of the night. I rested my right ear ever so slightly on the pillow and then it started to call my mom. I was like: "That's it. I'm returning you." It also paused quite frequently when I was physically adjusting my headphones.

Maybe you can get used to it, but in any case, I would much have preferred normal buttons.

Did the sound change after the update ?

Hard to say as the new ones are, well, brand new, and the others have 100s of hours on them.  If burn in is a thing, then I wouldn't know if it was the burn or the software.

That said, slight differences in the bass, but that could also be because the ear pads are new too.  So maybe I'll leave these un-updated for a while and see if they can compare better.

Thank you, because I went to store, and mine sounds different compare to them, and my right cup sounds bassier (or louder) than the left one.. I asked for a change, but they don't notice anything wrong for them, so I kept it, now the sound change a little bit.. maybe or it's my mind.. or the burn in.

That would be strange, because all new 2nd gen H7 are being delivered with the new 9.1.3 software. Maybe a future update will solve this problem

So I ended up updating the H7 I just got because I was convinced there was a sound difference, i.e. more volume specifically, and sure enough, all theories are true.

More bass, more volume, and the introduction of the little clicking at the beginning of the songs.

Without a doubt a different sounding headphone after the update.  Most won't like the change as it adds quite a bit of bass, but that said, now you can use the Beoplay app to reduce it if it's not to your liking.

Oh thanks for this feedback, I have listenend to my H7 before update just like 15min, and I did the update, so I don't really know if the sound has changed (Anyway I like bass). But do you have the same level of bass in each ear cup ?

I tried the H9 without ANC for 5min at the shop, it sounds like my H7 (but just for 5 min so I'm not sure), with ANC it's even more bassy.

Are there people here who have the problem whereas the lips of the leather at the end of the headband are starting to get loose? I saw a demo pair which had this? Should this be concerned as normal? See these pic where everything seems fine and the other one where the...
