Dekoni Nuggets have arrived, however, this concept is not understandable to me. The pads are way too deep and simply provide four stress points where before there was only a single one in the middle. Makes no sense to me, they should just release a headband. The headphones push up all the time, not the best comfort.
I think the idea is that having the nuggets placed in spread-out positions makes the hotspot distribute more evenly. So instead of just one intense hotspot in the center, you get 4 mild ones. But I also can't imagine something that thick working for me either. I have a larger head, so the nuggets would most likely make the headband too tight and put more pressure rather than relieve it.

Instead, I came across aftermarket straps from Sennheiser yesterday, so for the HD515. These make much more sense to me and were attached in the headband and are also comfortable.

This is exactly what I did for mine (I posted about this long time ago in this thread) and it's really comfy, and cheap.

It seems to me that someone here had steel straps with the serial number below 500.
However, for safety I recommend looking for versions over 600.

Is it something you would be able to verify in this listing please?

Yes, I found that as well. But there's no way to confirm the steel replacements from the picture? I suppose since the SN is so low, it would be plastic

Visually the two materials are almost identical, unfortunately from the photos it is impossible to help you to trace the type of strap. When you have them in your hands you have to press the strap exactly as I indicated in the photo of the link (above).
