Where do all you guys in Australia buy headphone amps from? So far I have only found 3 sites ... headphonic, coemaudio and firestoneaudio ...

Ideally a place to "test" in adelaide ...

I am from Melb., you can buy directly from the supplier, most of the sell direct.read the reviews and buy direct it is cheaper.

I'm from Melbourne too and i got my Corda Move from Headphonic at Perth, iBasso D1 direct from the manufacture and Darkvoice THA 336i from ebay, all bought unheard.

I wish i could test them locally but no regret with the above so far.

If you intend buying any of the Meier amps, I would suggest getting it
direct from the maker, Jan Meier in Germany.

I just got my new Corda Cantate in today's post ! YAH !

And if you are @Perth, you can drop by and audition! Just don't bring your plastic, that place is very very evil!

I bought my Solo 2004 from Decibel Hi-Fi in Queensland. Calton Audio Visual (Melbourne) had a few head amplifiers in stock for demo a few years back, such as X-Can III and Perreaux. Tivoli Hi-fi have a maudlin choice of head amplifiers and cans, for example Stax gear.

Beyond that, I definitely recommend Headphonic in Perth, although Marcus has very particular views on audio, e.g. does not believe too much in burn-in or the value of expensive digital sources or cables. He's a straight-talking individual and good on him. But don't expect to engage him in discussions about the nuances of silver cables vs copper, or whether 300 hours burn-in for Senns is better than 400 hours.

Google on Aussie websites also reveals a few e-tailers selling HP gear, particularly the hi-end audio shops and computer supermarkets.

That said, if you can get an O/S manufacturer to sell you 220-240V equipment with Australian A/C plugs, then you just have to run the PayPal and Customs duty gauntlets to get any gear you want in the world.

Gday,

Although Im new to the world of headphones... specialist hifi shops here in South Australia are quite scarce and those that exist carry very limited lines

And it looks the same if not worse when it comes to headphones where if you want to try anything out even akg 701's they have to order a pair in which usually is quite difficult if its an item they dont like having stock of.

A bit off topic here, I've managed to get some AT W1000's and am looking at getting a darkvoice 336i possibly am wondering what ppls opinions are in regards to this combo; am using a zhaolu 2.5C as source with flac files

often places will do auditions if you're willing to pay postage too. not as good as auditioning locally, but it's better than nothing

The market here is very small... look at how much trouble we've had finding head-fiers to come to the meet. Headphone amps are a niche market that Australia has trouble supporting in a commercial sense.
