how can an amp with balanced out not have any balanced input?  I was excited to see its balanced but now I am just confused

i think the only reason they put the balance output on device only for drive high impedance and hungry power headphones , not easy to drive such as HE-6 or HE-1000 and other planar , using balance output for more power

Yup, that's exactly right. I'm testing X7S right now and it can't drive my K1000. Instead, where this little thing really shines is PRE section. Tonality wise, X7S is fairy neutral amplifier with good low-end control, positive transparency for various sources and with non-fatiguing highs. It's very complementary versus X1S with soundstage more focused on depth and imaging than width. You can also hear it in PRE mode and that's why it can be a cheap and VERY effective addition for your system. With my DAC-80 and M-35, on K1000 you can hear clear difference in plus due to that.

I received an X7s today to go with my excellent X1s DAC and I am very pleased. It is strong, articulate, and just a bit on the warm side of neutral. It drives my Fostex T-X0 very easily and I am looking forward to trying it out with my other cans! Very pleased, indeed!
