I just finished reading through your chapters and I really enjoyed it. I have to say, though, the best part for me was when you mentioned how your friend with the system he had no plans to change was telling you to focus on the REAL goal of all of this - the music. This isn't a criticism, because I think we're all this way, but you really strike me as someone who loves new gear lol. I think the most telling point of this was when you felt something just wasn't right with your Conductor/LCD-2 rig, after having been so enamored with it, and then realizing a USB cable was the problem. I think that's a clear indication that you may want to revisit your friend's advice to get back to focusing on the music, man! The only reason I'm saying that is because you mentioned that you agreed with your friend that maybe you had lost some focus and allowed yourself to drift more into the "obsession" as opposed to the hobby. I'm not meaning to debate whether a USB cable can make an audible difference, I just think it's clear that you really love buying audio gear
Great read, though...the most important thing is that you're having fun!
I am focusing on the music... but with different gear
.
I do not retract anything about what I have stated initially about Burson Conductor . I still think it is a jewel and actually maybe even underrated sometimes
. I felt something was wrong as every time I listened to DarKus' Conductor (with stock usb cable) I felt it was warmer than mine, and when I first auditioned it, I did it with stock cable . Don't get me wrong even with the Wireworld Starlight Red, the sound was nice, but with the Chord is exactly how I want it to be.
Right now I am listening to Dream Theater "The Glass Prison" with HD800 and I love it. Yes that is right, I like hd800 with rock, I never thought this day will come. So yes, I love the Conductor and the Chord Silver Plus cable that really brings more bass and warms up the sound .
I do kind of love listening and testing other stuff and got really accustomed to writing here/blog. For example, now I am giving HD800 another listen. It presents the music very different than LCD2, and the fun fact is that even though they are so different I like them both very much!
You can read more about this in my next story
All I am saying now is that Burson Conductor really changed the sound of HD800 and made it really really enjoyable (The Chord Silver Plus helped too)

I'd really like to hear your opinions on the HiFiMan headphones, as I moved from the HD 650 to the HE-500 and at first it was jarring - but the mids and the detail retrieval blew me away after adjusting. I don't have an amp worthy of them yet (FiiO E9 - I have an O2 as well, but it doesn't play nice with my MSII+ DAC). I have a Schiit Magni on the way and I'm hoping it brings a noticeable difference.
I'm half-tempted to get a nice tube amp and then just save my money for the Stax SR-009 and the Blue Hawaii...but then I started thinking about a good SACD source.
Can someone get the OP a set of HE-500 to audition? I have no idea how they'd compare to a proper LCD-2 with a good system.
I have always been curios about the Hifimans myself. If I get any change to audition one, you can be sure I will post my impressions on it

Yeap, I can confirm that he has the buying fever
)
Oh no man, he will now want to buy the HE-500
) And he will encourage me to do the same thing

After the first time Traian came to me and auditioned the LCD2, the next few weeks he bought one. From that point on he never came to my home to audition the Burson Conductor, HD800 or anything else, as he is afraid for his wallet
