Audiofly AF180 Performance Series Impression&Appreciation Thread

Okay, 4 hours into these. They get better at every listen. It's kind of scary. Comparing the SE215 to this, I wonder why the hell I bought the SE215. Waste of money, the AF180 are the only way to go. In my opinion everyone should have a quad or Tri BA. Avoid dynamic drivers if you want realistic sound (unless the dynamic is tuned only for bass)
I feel compelled to write a review for these. They question almost all my audio purchases to date.

Amazing aren't they. Although I may not be too sure on avoiding all dynamic drivers for realistic sound (unless the dynamic is tuned only for bass). So far I have heard one single dynamic in ear sub $100 that were fairly realistic sounding. A fairly small and new Korean company called DynamicMotion. Their DM008 was fantastic. That one made me question all my single dynamic in ear purchases in the past.

Anyways, as special as the AF180 are to me, I may have to part with them :(
Still contemplating as I am in the minus purchasing the newly released Earsonics Velvet on impulse

These are really subjective to tips, fit and the way you wear them. Luckily I found the fit which suits me the most.

What can I say...passion drives my money. Maybe not always making the most smartest and economical purchases but an itch my ear has for certain products itches my whole being.

Happy to hear you did :) From all the over-the-ear design iems, I found the ASG-2.5, PFE232, AF180 most comfortable and if I had to choose, AF180 would definitely be the choice in both sound and comfort! What tips did you use?

Silicone, Comply tips are good for a few days then they deteriorate.

Just the earwax gets in the foam.

You must have some destructive agents in your earwax for them to deteriorate lol. Just kidding :)
So you're using silicone you said?

Mm, silicone is a more realistic and sharper sound, gives it a bit more kick which I like.

My only gripe is the lack of upgrade or aftermarket cables. I love the feeling of a 4-weave pure silver-oyaide cable, plus the sound.

Plug these into any computer. Run a 24 bit FLAC file. Whao, do these shine :D
I've been told that you can get better for the price I paid - I paid for the full round features, the cable, the sound, the durability. I visited AF's office a few days ago, met the people and spoke to the designer who made the AF180. Really really nice people, got to try out the new AF headphone coming later this year. They're opening a shop in Kings Street, Perth soon too. It's a combination of the people that run it, the sound, the cable and the overall package that make this a plus for me.

And honestly, if I can get better for the price, I might as well just upgrade and keep these. The sound is something I haven't heard before in an IEM (I've tried translucent 1+2, JH, etc plugged to an AK240) and it's a perfect representation of sound - not too bassy, not too much shouty treble. PERFECT for movies.

Could you not upgrade the cables - do they not have the industry standard connections? Was there any word on the company releasing a mic version of the cables for the top two units (or you didn't ask).?

Cheers

You sure you did? I e-mailed them on two occasions with no response. To me, they're dead (figuratively with some spite intended).

No, I'm not sure I went down to their office in Balcatta, picked up an new pair of AF180 after my other was defective. I have no recollection of the event at all.

Call them, don't email. I've emailed them before with a reply so I don't see the issue.

Mm they're MMCX connectors but have a locking mechanism developed by AudioFly (makes it 'easy' to take the earphone out the cable), so it has a little triangle shaped bump which cables won't fit in. I could try an aftermarket cable but I'm not down to spend money on something that won't work, maybe it will but they were never designed to have aftermarket cables.

Hahah mate, my post was a joke. But seriously, I contacted them twice about purchasing their products with questions but still no response. That's why I said they're dead to me - it's like they almost don't exist. But Existence, you probably understood that. Still wish to try these IEMs some day - possibly.
