I sure hope they're worth it... I'll try to post impressions as they go from open box to being burned in after I receive them in a couple weeks.

That would be awesome, thanks

On a different note, at minute 5 with the DT880 Pro, and liking them more than the AD900x.  Still, they don't have the AT mids I have come to love.

Recently I got the DT880 and I like them as much as the AD1000X. The AD1000X does wonderfully in terms of vocal engagement but the DT880 sounds crisp and clean, with seemingly more linear bass. I also find the DT880 more comfortable, though treble can get intense for some tracks.

The DT880 Pro is little brighter than what I expected.  Even on the most sibilant tracks, the DT880 Pro fares better than the AD900x.
They have more clamp than the DT990 Pro they replaced, or at least I feel they do.

+1 on crisp and clean
Not sure if anyone will agree with me, but I think electric guitar, percussion, and piano sound better on the DT880 Pro.   Percussion is more defined, piano has a little more depth in each stroke, and the electric guitar (especially 70s/80s) has a better tonality to it.

However to me, vocals lack intimacy and emotion.

EDIT:  Forgot to thank you for the recommendation, even though I went "Pro".  I think if I stretch the headband some, or get a darker tube, the DT880 Pro will last a long while with me.

i'm away from my cans at the moment, but basically, you put a rubber band / elastic around the wings so that they're being pulled towards each other a bit. really tightens up the grip and prevents slippage, especially for smaller heads.

yeah what i don't get is what you are anchoring the elastic to.

You anchor them to the wings, under and above

I'd recommend using a rubber band, elwappo, if your A900x slipped right off. It makes everything fit more snugly, anyway, which is a plus to the already pretty great comfort.

I had a pair of A900x that definitely slipped right off. Are the AD900x going to be the same way? I figured it was a result of the cup weight, and the open ones may not have that issue.

I remember the AD900x staying on my head better.  The A900x will occasionally feel like its slipping down my ears, however I never had this issue with the AD900x.

Your experience may vary, but I think the AD900x had stiffer and more solid wings.

If you can find a very porous fluffy non dampening (well not really dampening) foam to stuff under the earpads it helps and give a different sound... DO NOT USE COTTON BALLS OR ANYTHING DENSE... it changes the sound into poo...

Also don't stuff the whole pad... just the rear half...
