Thanks earfonia! but sadly i have already sold taiwan version several month ago. so i can't compare them side by side.
taiwan version definitely sound treble weaker than HD600, but recent japan version are not so.
but maybe my memory are not so accurate so ymmv. Or maybe due to individual unit diffrences.

my mission: mounting akg k701 pads on r70x

any ideas how to do it?
maybe buying a pair of pads with fitting lips and a set of hifiman mounting rings, cutting the lips of, glueing the lips to the mounting rings, connect the mounting ring to mount part of the 701 pads with the help of double sided tape?

appreciate any suggestions :)

It's a mission alright.

My I ask why are so eagerly trying to swap the original pads for the k701 pads. I saw the shameless stitching on the r70x which looks like shark attack, but are they so bad ?

Shure 1840 pads on the r70x (?) they look very similar to the k701 pads. Maybe that is more hassle free approach.

thanks for your suggestions. the stock pads are fine if you have small ears. i have big european ears. at the moment brainwavz hm5 are installed, but they are too narrow to be completely cirumaural. 1840 pads should be even smaller than the hm5.

yes my 1st pair of R70x was also made in taiwan..I bought 2nd pair of R70x few days ago at Amazon japan.
seems this made in japan version sound slightly treble extended compare to taiwan version.
maybe Audio technical did some minor modification or kaizen on R70x...?

Hi, just wondering; which version do you prefer, Japan or Taiwan? Thanks.

I prefer Japan version a bit but i think it difference may be due to individual units differences. So i can't comment specific. sorry!

ok, thanks. I was thinking of buying them again, since I once had a pair made in taiwan and was wondering if the difference was significant? I understand now, there there is, but it could very well be from unit to unit. Thanks again.

Can someone describe to me in detail what is so special about the sound stage of the R70x's?

People go on about it being "natural" and "being in the music" but that does sound kind of vague to me.

Comparison with the DT 990 (soundstage wise) for reference, is preferable!

SS is not huge or deep.. But it is very compact, good in left right dimensions, with good separation. Yes and it pulls you in.. Comparing with DT880 600Ohm.

BTw I sold all Grados, Beyers, Senns, ATs.. more then 20HPs I tried... And staying with these...

Wow that's some serious love for the ATs.

Regarding soundstage, I can concur that the r70x doesn't sound as "artificial" as my AKGs. Surely I enjoy a lot out of my AKGs but sometimes they're too spacious for their own good.
