Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7 Discussion Thread

Finally I got the LTD as well..................so I now got 2 MSR7s. While I'm sure MSR7 shares the same heritage with M50 somehow, I never got to like M50 too much. M50x was much better but still something wasn't right........I put it as to the timbre mostly, as some instruments tend to sound unnatural and while generally the layering ability is fine,  some congestion is found in specific frequency ranges. The MSR7, on the other hand, is much more open and transparent with correct timbre. It ticks a lot more boxes to me than the M50x. I didn't have much experience with the M50LE so I couldn't really comment.

Does the Ltd sound the same?

M50x definitely has more bass and treble than M50LE, not much. So depend which one you want to consider as balance. To my ears, M50x is a bit V shape, just a bit.  It's not which one is better.  Some recordings sounds better on M50x, some on M50LE.  It is also depend on the system as well. I consider M50LE, M50x, and MSR7 to be in the same league, just different tuning to suit individual preference.

From reading all these impressions and drawing my own conclusion since I have M50x and HP150, it almost sounds like MSR7 will sound close in sound sig to SoundMagic HP150/HP100 (more neutral/reference).  Unfortunately, I won't be able to audition MSR7 until Feb/March of '15 when AT US going to release it here...  Just curious if you ever heard HP100 for comparison?

HP100 is flatter IMHO, MSR7 has slight hump around upper mids, and more forward sounding. But when driven with HA22Tube, somehow the upper mid hump sounds very nice :)

So then how is the msr7 linear in fr or natural then?

Still lean towards clarity, not really flat. But music is not about flat or colored, it's about music to our ears. and MSR7 with HA22Tube is music to my ears

i just auditioned the msr7 at Jaben. the sq is really good for its price. however, its quite heavy on the head so I did not pre-order it. the sony one is much more comfortable, but I still prefer the audio technica sound signature.

By reading this I have one question to ask you. Can you please compare the comfortability between ath-msr7 and v-moda m-100 ?
