In comparison with my Denon AH-D5000s they definitely have a leaner bass, but because the lower mids are a bit colored (which makes most, if not all Cd's sound big, lush and fullbodied) I don't find this a problem at all.
As I said earlier, at the moment I like them a bit better than the D5000s
And some people will find D5K have too much bass, so A900X may be just right for them. See? It really depend on who you ask, though they're neither right or wrong, you just have to adapt their view with their preference.
I got them new at buydig for $150 with the $10 off coupon code. They are AMAZING after the burn-in and if you just tie a tight rubberband on the wings overnight, it does a great job of holding the headphones. Still cannot believe these are 150.
Earlier in this thread someone mentioned that BeachCamera is the same seller as BuyDig, Does this mean that the BeachCamera pair of these headphones you can get off Amazon are refurbished too?
@420Crawfish
I don't know, maybe someone else can tell you.
Man, I love the A900Xs!
I feel they are worth the original retailprice of 399 USDollar, so getting these for only 150 US Dollar is just an incredible bargain! With the Denon D5000s I never felt they are 699 Dollar headphones, maybe the looks and feel, but not the sound, so the 350 US Dollar I paid for the D5000s is just right I guess.
Having said this, I really beginning to feel the A900Xs are superior to the D5000s in some aspects. First the midrange, which is fuller and has lots more presence. They aren't more detailed than the D5000s but I still seem to hear more clearly into things. The sound is bigger and wider which is great, but without losing cohesion, which was the biggest shortcoming of the Audio Technica A500s and from memory the old A900s.
Instrumental timbre and texture is almost on par with the D5000s, the D5000s also has better clarity.
But overall I enjoy the A900X's better.
I just got them and I love them. When I order them this Tuesday night they were $179 on amazon and $155 on Buydig but with a 30yearshotdeals15 code I got them for $140. When I looked at them today online Amazon is up to $189 and Buydig is up to $179 so getting them brand new for $140 was a really good deal!!
But they keep sinking on my head. How should I rubber-band them at night to make them stay put?

Are there any pads that don't distance your ears so much from the drivers?
I've heard about the A1000 pads or something, but I'd like some suggestions.
I just got mine (burned in 100+ hours, used), and they sounds freaking beautiful, but everything sounds better (to me) when I press the cups into my face just slightly.
Like, the distance these pads provides sounds a bit unreal, with there being a noticeable "cups over ears" signature (although binaural recordings still sound stunning).
I have no other qualms with this pair besides this minor issue and the comfort from them (Coming from the M50s, these sound very nice).
Also, is an amp required for these?
If so, any recommendations for that?
After browing much of this thread, I'm about to pull the trigger on the a900x. My final question is whether or not these headphones absolutely necessitate an amplifier? I will mostly be using the headphones from my laptop and my 3rd gen ipod touch. I have been using the ath-m50's b/w 3-4 years and am most definitely looking for the next step forward in the m50 sound signature?? Is it a natural upgrade? I have used the ath-950LTD and found their midrange and soundstage superior to the m50, but they were too bright and didn't have enough bass. Will I be facing the same problem with the a900x?

IMO i don't think these need an amp unless the source your using has a weak output. Out of my macbook, sansa clip+, and iphone 3gs it sounds just fine. I have a fiio e17 and it only makes a big difference when using the dac on it (which can only be used on a computer). It made very little difference out of my clip+ and not much difference out of my iphone.
I had the m50s a long time ago. I must've got a weird pair because mine weren't that bassy. Im not a basshead. The m80's had a lot more bass than the m50s i had. Nonetheless i do feel it's a good upgrade. I absolutely love these headphones! Best sounding pair of headphones that i've owned!
I do find that the mids are sometimes a bit too upfront to sound natural. Mostly with baroque music, with some Bach recordings instruments like the flute and clarinet stick out too much and ring my ears, just slightly though.
Maybe my ears are too sensitive in this case but generally the sound improves, gets a bit more depth as well when I lower the 500Hz frequency by 3dB (one stripe with iTunes equalizer) and to get a smoother curve I lower the 250Hz and the 1kHz by 1.5 dB too.
