Interesting. Thanks for sharing. I want the A900X to work so bad but can't handle my ears overheating with the pleather pads. The velour replacements pads from AT help but the sound is incredibly diluted. Mids somewhat muffled and bass sadly diminished. Thoughts?

You may be stuck with having to deal with them or having to get another headphone. I only wear my A900X during cool weather or short sessions during the summer.

  I didn't know the A900Xs won the Hifi-Choice award in 2012, for best headphones.
And Hi-Fi news chose them (with the Beyerdynamics T70) as favorites in a grouptest, they liked them better than Sennheiser HD700 and AKG Q701

Yeah, I can't stand wearing the stock pleather pads for longer than half an hour. It gets hot and the tip of my ears rub against the pads, since they're not oval shaped like all humans ears are. It got so uncomfortable, I had to order velour pads from Moon Audio. 
 
The velour pads helps a ton with comfort, but then like you said, the sound changes a lot. At first, I hated the sound with velour pads, but I'm used to it now and like it. Definitely diluted and less bass though. I think it's because the velour pads lets the sound leak out. The pleather kept the sound inside the ear cups well, but also overheats your ears.
 
I honestly don't want to sell the A900X because I love the sound quality, but if the HD 700 beats these in both comfort and SQ, I'm gonna have to let them go.

The HD700's are 2 tiers above the A900X in tech specs. Just sayin

Just got mine yesterday, looooooove it. I don't think I'll ever need to purchase another closed headphone and if I do it'll be another 900x or a step up.

How does the ATH-A900X compare to the ATH-M50 in terms of sibilance? I find the ATH-M50 far too sibilant and am looking for closed cans with a signature a little closer to the HD600.

The A900X has a lot less sibilance than the ATH-M50.

The AKG Q701, HD598, MDR-1R, V-Moda M100, ATH-M50, and A900X suffer from the sibilance of this song. Although the A900X suffers a lot less compared to the other headphones.

However the A900X is pretty dark in the 3-7khz area, so it's almost sibilance free. Except for those REALLY extreme bad recordings/masterings that somehow make their way to 8-10khz like the one I showed above.

You mentioned that you listened to the HD600, do you perhaps own one? I would save up and get a better closed headphone because the A900X would be quite a downgrade compared to the HD600.

Yes, HD600 are my primary cans, so thanks for that info. I was under the impression that ATH-A900X was not quite on the same level as HD600, but not "quite a downgrade", either. I'm having a hell of a time finding a closed equivalent to HD600 that isn't sibiilant and doesn't cost a ****load.

Very detailed, I just bought a pair of ath a900x recently, and I've been using it for 40 hrs. it sounds pretty dull, the treble is not bright enough and the bass sounds very soft and loose. I somehow feel like my old ath m50 sounds better than the a900x. The m50 has more clarity and the bass is much punchy (not boomy). Is all of these common? Does it need more burn-in? Or should I return it and get a pair of a1000x?
