Audio-Technica ART Monitor Series Refreshed: A2000Z, A1000Z, A900Z, A500Z

24hrs of burn in and soundstage opened up a little more, sound is definitely more expanded.  Not on a holographic level, but in comparison to last night the width is a little wider, and depth/height slightly improved as well.  Still can't match T5p 2nd gen soundstage expansion or treble airiness, but A2kZ bass is more extended, noticeably more quantity (especially sub-bass), and more articulate and tighter in comparison, and upper mids/treble overall are as detailed and revealing but AT sounds more natural and a little smoother in comparison to Beyer.  Would have loved to see how A2kZ sounds balanced, but that permanent cable attachment...  why, or why...

How big is the earpad opening on the A2KZ compared to the T5? Is it bigger, smaller, deeper? Could you measure it precisely perhaps?

Nearly the same.  Not the best picture of the earpad opening though, just copying a few shots I posted in T5p 2nd gen thread last week.  I will measure it once I'm ready to work on the review.  For sure, clamping force is stronger and just like with R70x - earpads are angled (thicker on the back) which makes sound isolation better with A2KZ.

  To twister6:
After 3 weeks+ in use , how is the A2000Z sound now compared to the T5p 2.  ?
Thank you.   Johann

Sorry, I only used it a few times, it's in a my review queue, hopefully will get to it in a few weeks.  But I did recently upgrade T5p.2 with Mr Speakers Alpha pads (posted a write up last night here), now both sound very similar.  Once I'm working on my A2kZ review, I will be comparing it to T5p.2 w/Alpha pads.  Plus, I need to do another mod to fix T5p.2 sound leakage.  By the time I'm done modding to bring them up to the same sound sig level, besides removable cable advantage - T5p.2 is still almost twice the price

Read your review on THL, it was a great read! BTW, do you by chance plan to review the new CKR90/CKR100?

Overloaded with reviews at the current moment (this is what I'm sitting on to review next).  Plus, I typically get my AT review samples directly from AT US and I don't see them carrying CKR90/CKR100 yet.

Anyone have any experience with the ATH-A1000Z and A900X's?? I'm looking to upgrade from my 900X's to the A1000Z's, but would appreciate anyones thoughts on them.

I compared the A1000Z against A990Z if it helps. The A1000Z are neutral with a bit less, but more accurate bass. The A990Z are somewhat V-shaped, aimed for multimedia. The bass feels a bit bloated and are in general more fun sounding hp. The A1000Z sound more accurate and also have better earpads. The highs can be a bit sibilant sometimes, which is somehow not a problem on the A990Z.
