Depends if you intend using USB input. The NFB3.2 has a better USB chipset.

I preferred the sound of the DIR9001 over the WM8805 back when I owned a NFB3

Me too, but I would suggest getting both boards.

Indeed. I did exactly that. For an extra $22 or so, it's a no-brainer!

Anyone using the new 3.2 or 2.2 versions yet?  If so, how do you like it?

Am considering pairing the 3.2 up with one of the new Audio-gd SA-31 amps among others.  May even go mainstream and try a Yamaha R-S700 stereo receiver... but i digress.

Also, I believe I have read comments on the pink fish media forums from John Westlake (designer of the M-DAC) saying that asynchronous USB is superior to coax and toslink inputs, so wondering if that holds true with the Audio-gd implementation as well from anyone's experience so far.

I don't have a NFB-2.2, just the 'old' NFB-2.The changes to the design will not so much affect the color of the sound, much more the detailing and spatial separation. The NFB-2/3 have always been quite neutral without getting harsh or brittle.

BTW I've heard several D/A converters and streaming audio solutions in the mean while and still come to the conclusion that my SB-Touch/NFB-2 is hard to beat in my system. And the devices that do beat this combination (Naim Uniti to name one....) are so much more expensive that it has to date protected me against upgraditis

I agree, I still have my "good old" NFB3 and it's here to stay.

Actually, Kingwa says the Compass 2 is no longer in production--replaced by the NFB-6.

This non sense , go at www.audio-gd.com peraphs you didn't have understand well or king wa didn't explain well .

1) NFB-6 is just an AMP (balanced) .

2) Compas 2 is an upgradable DAC+AMP

3) Compas 2 according to Audio GD web sit it's not yet released ... how can something not yet avaliable can be replaced by an older product (NFB-6 have now  about 4-5 months) .
