Audeze Penrose X and Penrose

Doesn’t seem to be keeping up with the competition as far as I can tell.

Sure there is more battery life but Steel Series TOTL comes with two batteries so there is never downtime. Just lots of features happening with that headset.

No way of knowing if the mic is any better but it doesn’t look different. The Penrose had perhaps the worst wireless mic audio quality, my friends literally asked me to stop using the Penrose when I previously owned it because my voice wasn’t clear enough for callouts.

These things also seem heavy, not sure I want that on my head for 20+ hours during a day 1 raid.

Would love if they would just partner with a gaming headset company and provide the drivers and nothing else.
We have multi link and multi point audio. The reason our wireless mic quality didn't match wired was because it had to share bandwith. This is no longer the case. Maxwell mic audio has its own connection. It will sound as good as the wired connection.

The mic is the same as used on the Penrose, which was only limited by the wireless bandwith.

Perhaps best left to a Maxwell thread.

I think the views on mic quality depend on what headset you’re coming from. Most people don’t pay attention to what they sound like. If someone has been talking to friends on a crappy mic for years and switches to a slightly better crappy mic…it’s all relative.

I also think the Penrose mic monitoring was extremely poor. Too low volume. I hope they fixed that. Mic monitoring volume and mic quality were the two reasons I returned them.
My friends actually notice when I use anything other than the Penrose as they'll ask, why doesn't your mic sound good anymore. I agree about the monitoring being a little low. I got used to it though. Maybe this time it'll be louder.

Is that better than the Penrose X please as i noticed the Drivers in the new Maxwell is only 90mm which is smaller than the Penrose X ?

yes...

Penrose : per website was 16 bit / 48kHz (so CD quality) Although in practice Windows I know connected at 24bit / 48 kHz (undocumented feature?)
Maxwell : 24 bit / 96kHz

Also significant that it supports audio over USB. Mobius did that but not Penrose.

Game/Chat is the default action, no need to click. The microphones have automatic gain control, so we do not have any microphone volume adjustment.

The lower wheel is no longer a 'Mic wheel' but a Chat/Communications wheel, where game/chat balance (scroll) , sidetone adjustment (press and scroll), and sidetone on/off (double press) actions are on.

If you need to adjust mic volume past that, it will be done at the system/console level.

@Audeze - Odd as the there seems to be a microphone adjustment wheel on the Maxwell as shown below, so what does that do please ?

We may update this icon in the future, but you can consider it as a 'chat' icon. It still controls everything related to your microphone, just not volume, which as stated previously, is automatic.

It controls the balance between game/party chat, your mic monitoring/sidetone volume level (as in the volume level of being able to hear yourself), and turning mic monitoring/sidetone and and off by a simple double press.

The sponsor page. Questions should go there. Let's keep this thread here to Penrose talk.

I couldn't be able to find any info about launch in Europe, seriously are they planning to initially launch only for United States? this is a shame for a company with worldwide presence
Absolutely not. We'll have more info to share about other parts of the world as we get closer to release. Keep an eye out for for Audeze official dealers who may have some info to share themselves.

Is the sidetone’s max setting louder than the Penrose? I found it unusable at max volume on Penrose, it was hard to hear myself over the game audio.

The intention is for it to be fully adjustable to your liking, but the firmware has not yet been finalized just yet to verify volume level relative to Penrose. We'll know more as we get closer to launch.

As for Global release: We expect most overseas chains (except China in late Feb), BUT it is up to our distributors to place orders with us, so some of them may receive inventory before others.

Am I right in thinking shipping to the UK is not an option from your US site? Couldn’t see the UK on the country list.

@Audeze any upgrade path for current Penrose owners who want to potentially trade up? I love your products but my whole experience from launch with the Penrose has been, rocky, to say the least and I along with others aren't willing to take the plunge into getting the Maxwell given our bad experiences.
We have no immediate plans, but we'll consider it for the future.

We do ship to United Kingdom.

However, we encourage customers to purchase from a local authorized dealer. This way customers are assured local support when needed and would not have to pay additional shipping charges, customs fees, duties, etc. Also, if any need for warranty service should occur, it can be handled by our local distributor without the need to ship to the USA. (Anything purchased from the US must be returned here for service at the customer's expense.)

You can find a list of dealers in your area here. If you're near the UK, please check out our UK website here: https://www.audeze.co.uk/

If you prefer to purchase directly from us, shipping is calculated at checkout based on the products in your cart and your shipping address, and any import duties will be assessed by your government upon entry to the country. Our 30-day return period is valid outside the US, but you must pay for shipping and duties both ways if you decide to return your purchase.

Import duties are beyond our control, and will be billed to you separately by the carrier before delivery is made. Audeze cannot declare a lower value than the sales price on customs documents.

We can only ship to countries that appear on the pulldown menu at checkout. If your country does not appear on the pulldown menu, we are not able to ship to that country. In this case, you should contact a local dealer or distributor for any purchases.
