You mentioned having new firmware in your X — have they given any word when the new firmware will be released? The whooshing noise is very noticeable in my use and it’s tough to judge whether I want to keep or return.
The firmware on the X is the production version, which will be the identical as the one you guys have on the regular Penrose currently.

Like you, I have to wait for the upcoming firmware.

Yea I am on series X and it's just called uncompressed stereo on there, the other two are Dolby Atmos and DTS. I might try Atmos with my Penrose X when I get it but I think I will use uncompressed stereo because that's what the headset is meant for from what I am reading.
That option does not change what the Penrose is using. Pcm/bitstream options is for what the HDMI out uses. It makes no difference for the Penrose or any usb device/controller plugged Headphones.

You're not getting anything different by changing this option. The usb devices or controller jack always get the same regardless.

I have a question for @Audeze : What is your current estimate for delivery to European retailer?
Really looking forward to my pair :)
Some of them should be receiving them next week. Some of the distributors use their own shipping arrangement. Some of them are shipped by us. Transit times, customs clearance time etc vary.

The output over USB on both Playstation and Xbox is PCM audio. The 3D processing (Atmos, Windows Sonic, DTS-X) on the Xbox is done on the console and the USB output is stereo. This is automatically done if the game has Atmos for example. Xbox does not output multichannel audio over USB at the moment.

On PC you can utilize anything software related like Waves NX, DTS Headphones X, Atmos for headphones, etc. Personally I think Waves NX is the best option of the three. It's a little more tweakable.

No I am as referring to series X and headphone options not the hdmi audio options those are two separate options. I see what you saying though.

Oh so even if I choose atmos if the game doesn’t support it then it would be uncompressed stereo then? That’s what it’s called on series x.

Is Waves NX also the best one “out of the box” so to speak? I’m always keen to try any virtual 3D that might improve positional audio in games, but I doubt I’d be doing much tweaking as I wouldn’t trust myself not to make things worse.

Yes. The audio coming out of the USB is always uncompressed audio. It might be processed with Atmos/DTS etc prior to being sent out of the USB or it might just be plain stereo.

Do you know anything about which UAC Xbox series x supports? If any that is. Also is there any update as to when the penrose x might start shipping?

I haven't done a comparison since I pretty much just moved to the X for testing since it's the more recent firmware. The regular one was packed up to ship back as soon as I get a label.

In any case, they should be identical with the only difference being the usb stick that has the Xbox switch on it. The difference is the Xbox support and color.

Been lurking this thread and just chiming in for clarification - have you tested the Penrose X on the PS4/5 yet and can you confirm it functions when set to the PC/non-Xbox switch toggle? Or are you unable to answer just yet? Thanks!

I mean that could be the case, but I've never experienced this with any other headphones. Are planars just more likely to exhibit this for some reason?

I should mention that the imbalance is very slight. But it's enough to shift the sound left maybe an inch to the left within my head, which does make it somewhat noticeable.

I just received my pair today, and I'm noticing the same issue: a slight imbalance that pushes the soundstage to the left a bit. I wore the headphones in reverse, and I noticed it pushed to the sound to the right, so I'm thinking it's either a driver or pad issue. I've fiddled with the fitment to see if I could get it to balance evenly, but I couldn't reliably fix it. I'll try testing a bit more later.
