Audeze - Our Maxwell Gaming Headsets! (latest: Firmware v61 and HQ v97)

@Audeze Does the bitdepth and samplerate change the latency when used in windows? So is 24bit/96kHz higher latency than for example 16/48? I am currently playing guitar through plugins and listening to them via wireless Maxwell - holy crap this is amazing! (Reaper, WASAPI 24/48 - USB connection seems to have a minimally better latency still, but both are easily usable for me.)
Really liking the Maxwell so far, great job Audeze! :)
Not much. The USB latency is about 1/3 or wireless latency. You can also try ASIO4all and see if it reduces latency a little bit more.

For the Playstation version, why does it need a toggle for PS5 and PC use? Does the PS toggle give any advantages when using on the PS5?
Main reason for this is the way volume control and multiple endpoints are handled in PS. With Our previous headset, one of the most frequently requested feature was the ability to control the volume from PC/Mac and not just use the onboard volume control. To do this, we needed to have different behavior over USB.

Gotcha, thanks!

I think I will spring for the Xbox headset for compatibility on all systems, as I'm fine with them not having on-headset volume and chat control. I assume that would be all you lose using them toggled to "PC" on the PS5.

The IOS app initial version is up on the App Store. You can adjust the custom EQ on IOS.

The way Atmos license works is that you need to have the Dolby Access app on your source for the headset to have it enabled. Atmos is not 'stored' on the headset, only the license is on Xbox.

So as long as you have the license (bought previously or buy now on Dolby Access), PS Maxwell will work in the same exact way. The main thing again, get Dolby Access on the windows store.

Thanks! That's very helpful.

It's been a while since I've been on the site. I sold my audiophile gear since everything seemed to be uncomfortable and gave me aches and pains.

Since then I've bought and used DT 990 pros for music mixing which are super comfortable and I use the 3D Pulse for my Psvr 2 setup. When I found out about the Maxwell I was interested, Penrose was great but was unbearable to wear because of how tight it was.

Put an order in for the Maxwell and received them today. The audio quality is great. Haven't heard music like this in a while, Vr games were fantastic and I could tell the step up in quality compared to the Pulse. I was told they were much more comfortable than the Penrose and many people had no issues with clamp force.

Unfortunately I'm not one of those people. The weight doesn't bother me so much but the clamp force is noticeable. The 990s and pulse can be worn for hours and when I take them off it's like I wasn't even wearing anything. The Maxwell on the other hand clamp too hard and cause some pain. It'll eventually lead to a headache as I've been down this road before, if not jaw or pain in front of the ears.

I'll give the band a stretch and see what happens but I've been here before. I'm hoping they can get comfortable for me but they'll eventually go back if I can't wear them without discomfort. It's a shame cuz they are fantastic

Is the PlayStation model in stock anywhere from an authorized dealer in the US? They seem to be on backorder/preorder everywhere.

Hey, if I turn off my PC (windows) while the headset still being on. The headset turns itself off.
When I turn on the PC, the headset is the selected output device. But the headset is still off, so no sound is coming out. I expect the sound output device to be removed from the list when I turn off the pc.

Anyone else experienced this?

There was a Maxwell still in stock at the shop I mostly get my audio gear, ordered one yesterday and got it today (in the Netherlands). So far the headset sounds pretty good for being a headset :D
What store in The Netherlands did you buy it from? PS or Xbox version? Also seeing a onlineshop called 'Proshop' selling xbox version for €355,- while other stores advice a price of €439,-, don't know if this reliable.

Edit: seeing that Proshop.nl is located in Denmark. Are there Danish people here who bought the Maxwell on Proshop?

As I've been on the headphone journey for many years at this point, I've started to prioritize comfort more and more. I just can't enjoy a headphone, no matter how amazing it may sound, if it isn't comfortable and able to be worn for long periods of time (e.g. hifiman anything). In fact, I will gladly sacrifice some amount of sound quality for comfort.

For gaming in particular, something lightweight that "disappears" on the head is what I'd prefer. So my main hesitation with the Maxwell is comfort. 500+ g is just a lot of weight for a headphone.

Is anyone else able to make some comments on comfort?

Good day @Audeze

I’m in South Africa and a local retailer is awaiting stock of the Xbox variant.

I have a couple of questions I’d appreciate being answered before I pull the trigger.

1. The software/firmware issues, are we still in a situation where there are issues Headset/Dongle/PC etc that need to be resolved? I ask because I just updated the iOS Audeze HQ app and the EQ presets are broken when using my LCD-i3 in ears. You have to toggle between settings and EQ until the display sorts itself out. This makes me feel like the software is still not polished. See attached. Is there a list anywhere of known bugs that are being worked on?
2. Will there ever be an open back version of the Maxwell?

Much appreciated!

Yaaay! Finally got mine from LDLC! The stock eq is a little bland for my taste (voices sound a bit hollow), but the immersive preset is fantastic and with a little more tinkering they sound truly spectacular.
I'm missing EQ editing on the PC app tho.
