Will the grills from an LCD-3 fit on the XC, once the wood cups have been removed?
99% chance they will. LCD-2 and LCD-X do. All should be the same I reckonWill the grills from an LCD-3 fit on the XC, once the wood cups have been removed?

If you have both cans give it a go!

Thanks, I will later today. I'll report back with my impressions.

Well, that was an interesting exercise. The sound of the XC with the open grills is really nice, but not as nice as the LCD-3s, so no real gain. But I managed to kill about an hour of my otherwise humdrum day.

Did you try closed LCD-3? I also have both might give it a go.Well, that was an interesting exercise. The sound of the XC with the open grills is really nice, but not as nice as the LCD-3s, so no real gain. But I managed to kill about an hour of my otherwise humdrum day.![]()

I attempted to, but the cups don't quite fit. The screws that hold the cubs to the XC are a different than the ones that hold the grill to the 3 (different thread size). As I was attempting to attach the wood cups to the 3, I was met with a bit of resistance and I was not going to take a chance on breaking the cups.Did you try closed LCD-3? Also, the bubinga cups paired with the zebrano wood on the 3's look really weird!!!!
Hehe, that would be surprising if it wasWell, that was an interesting exercise. The sound of the XC with the open grills is really nice, but not as nice as the LCD-3s, so no real gain. But I managed to kill about an hour of my otherwise humdrum day.![]()

All things considered, a business model starts to flesh out for these Audeze grills

That’s what I say. Audeze is gong to charge a lot more for these. For people with the Closed backs it’s a less expensive way to sort of have open and closed. All things considered, a business model starts to flesh out for these Audeze grills![]()
Also making sealing cups for the open backs would be great too. Doesn’t have to be any fancy wood. Maybe plastic with a design?

We believe that wooden grils showcased in this thread would visually work much better than anything else we've seen up to this point. But that's a matter of taste, right?

Not sure if you're asking me about the difference between the XC as closed vs. open, or the XC as open vs. the LCD-3. Please note that I really didn't do extensive testing. I made the switch, listened to various cuts (my usual go-to tracks, like stuff from Steely Dan, Floyd, Tull, Metheny, Joni). I can't get into all the usual technical jargon, mostly 'cause I don't understand most of itHehe, that would be surprising if it was

One would be better put some anti seize lubricant / grease on the screw thread if swapping grill is done frequently.

We have no idea, but to us wood is quite unbeatable! Even on wooden headphones! The more of it, the better!
