Audeze LCD-X

I’ve never heard the Auteur but it looks like a brighter stock tuning than the LCD-X (somewhat pad dependant) based off of measurements. Lifetime warranty on the driver on the Auteur as well. The clear is slightly warm as well with a touch of mid-bass bloat. The LCD-X probably has more “air” than any of them but has that recession in the upper mids that makes them kind of warm

The Auteur and biodynamic driver headphones are often praised for their “timbre” as well as their bass punch.
Whereas the LCD-X is more of a detail-oriented set with an interesting stock tuning and really good extension.

I would be drawn to get something like the Auteur as a compliment to the LCD-X. I’d keep the LCD-X for when I want to have a more focused listening session and the Auteur for when I want something I can just kind of zone out and let the music happen with. Tyler from the headphones.com community often talks about a “leaning forward” or “leaning back” type of presentation. The LCD-X from my experience are a bit more of an analytical presentation or “leaning forward”. Especially with EQ. I think the Auteur on tubes would probably be more of a “leaning back” presentation. But definitely check in with people who own the Auteur because, as I mentioned, I’ve never had a chance to actually hear them.
Interesting. Thanks for the recommendation! I think Im going to stay away from the Clears because I heard that vocals can sound slightly metallic. The Auteur seems to be what Im looking for but Ive also heard the Aeolus may be a nice compliment as well. Ill have to dig a bit more.

I don't find LCD-X analytical at all. I guess it depends on what you compare them with. From my experience they're slightly laidback and warm, with a good amount of detail.

this is my measurement from audeze. Just so we have more to compare to.

Just emailed Audeze support for my new LCD-X's frequency response graph.

Was checking the user manual and they mention conditioning the leather earpads and headband; do you peeps do this every few months or so? And just wipe the leather down with a cloth in the meantime?

edit: the LCD-X 2021 revision is really good.

I'm curious about this too. In the meantime I use a slightly damp microfiber cloth.

Here is my FR.

What EQ settings would you all recommend applying to achieve a FR closer to Harmon? Ill be using APO w/ Peace and/or Roon. Im fairly new to EQing, so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
oratory1990 settings are quite good. But what I’m currently thinking of doing is trying to take into account how mine deviates from the average graphs. Like yours seems to have a bit more bass than the average and less treble spike

For Harman you could try Oratory's EQ: https://reddit.com/r/oratory1990/w/index/list_of_presets

I think I prefer the stock tuning. Sometimes I like to add a 3dB low shelf at 100Hz, and bring down 2dB at 11800Hz (Q factor 3).
Thanks for the input. Would you recommend lifting the mids/upper mids to bring it a bit closer to harmon? 3k maybe 10-11dB, 8k maybe 7-8dB? I definitely will bring down 11800 as you suggested and bump the low shelf up. Im just having difficult determining the Q factor for 3k and 8k.

You can definitely lift the upper mids and treble to give it more clarity. 10dB seems excessive though.
Maybe try this EQ: This is based on Resolve's EQ from one of his livestreams.

In terms of EQ, I highly recommend oratory's EQ profile for the 2021 LCDX. The only adjustment I made was the 1800hz High Shelf -- I lowered that to +4.8db because I'm a little treble sensitive. Sounds wonderful now!

Don't forget to adjust your pregain!

And another!

Edit: Would love to see the graphs of folks with LCD-X's from June-July 2021. Compared to the March-May ones, which look a little flatter, the June-July ones seem to have a stronger treble dip. However, this is based off the lone July 2021 frequency graph up top @BigTonkotsu -- could definitely just be unit variance vs tuning change
