Audeze LCD i4 TOTL In-Ear Monitor Discussion

I always found the effect of the reveal eq to be much more subtle than you would be led to believe by reading this thread. It was a discernible difference when going back and forth, but not a night and day and quite song dependent. On some tracks it is barely noticeable. On other tracks it is a bit more evident to me, but still not a hugely obvious difference.
Your comment totally resonates with me. For the longest time I was wondering if I was doing something wrong or my hearing was going bad, based on what folks were saying.

Barely noticeable on some tracks. Thank you so much.

New amp and its like the LCD-i4 have transformed, I didn't think bass could hit this low but WOW.

I've never felt the need for EQing LCD-i4, but proper amping was always crucial.

The i4 sounds stellar even when I am portable (using the Cayin RU7) but man once properly amped up, it goes above and beyond. I love having them EQ'd, at times I feel like I have a sub in the room.

Don't get me wrong, they do sound good without, but so much more can be brought out with some eq in particular frequencies. I used for 6 months with no eq.

Sorry to bombard you with questions. I've never used 3D printing.

They also have an option for ABS instead of PLA, and .2 instead .1 layer. Do you have any advice on these options?
Ah sorry for some reason gmail isn't letting me know about post quote :frowning:
Though I only had experience with PLA and TPU.
Did you got them printed?

Kinda curious about ABS actually. But then my PLA lasted for 3 months before it started breaking. Quite satisfied already.

PLA is pretty brittle at .1. I went through a bunch of the hooks I had 3D printed.

Ah it seems the one they use for my earhook was PLA+
Only had one breaking so far, though that was totally on me because I keep detaching it.
I'd opt for ABS and .2 layer printing next time. Correction it was PLA+ that I used. They didn't fare well with any kind of readjusting I did. I lost 2 sets of the 10 I printed so far with light usage.

Did some EQ by ear using FL Studio + Ozone EQ.
Since I just happened to have it.
Really like how i4 responds to EQ.
Though I mostly listen to vocaloids, so not sure how it responds to other.

Had some earhooks printed in PLA (grey) and PETG (black), comfort wise they are pretty similar but I feel that PETG has the edge in durability though none have broken just yet. Highly recommend getting them printed via Makelab if you are in the East Coast and don't have a printer.

My custom cables finally arrived, imaging/separation is the best I've heard thus far, bass is fuller vs the cheap balanced cable I was using previously. Stock cables were fine bass wise but they were single ended so I only used them with the RU7.
If anyone's curious, I had these made with a thicker gauge wire from the EAGLE CS series:

Nice cable. That looks A1. Thank you for the info on the Earhooks and a more durable 3D printed material. How'd you like the RU7 with the LCD-i4?

No problem! The RU7 pairs well with the LCD-i4. They LOVE power so when I pair it with the RU7 for example, I have the bass reduced by about 3db vs my normal EQ. I feel that the isine20s pair much better with the RU7 since it needs less power. Depending on your listening levels, I think you'll be quite happy with the RU7!

Finally I have a DAP, Shanling M9+, that can play with my Audeze LCDi4. So far, I've really been limited to desktop with it, but with M9+'s power and eq ability, I am hearing this almost anew. And I'm reminded of exactly how freakin awesome they are. They look weird, like something in Star Trek, but the sound! They are truly breathtaking when powered and eq'd properly, so they are now getting some much needed time.

Haven't tried my LCD-i4's with my Sony NW-WM1ZM2 yet... No time like the present... I almost bought an M9+... Sounds like I should still pick one up.
