Audeze has been aiming to position themselves as makers of the best headphones in the world. If we put the sound aside for a minute, The HEK was indeed an issue for them on 2 fronts: Technology with the nanometer diaphragm and price with a price above the LCD3. These 2 elements independently of the sound as we talk about perceptions here where an issue. The answer was 1.5 tesla and $4000 to try to keep the higher end positioning. I do not think it will work for 2 reasons. 1. People are not that stupid and everybody can understand that you need more power to move heavier stuff but that additional weight (diaphragm and magnets) is getting in the way big time. 2. There are no glowing reviews on the sound, as the marketing has not been done right compared to Dr Fang beta program and lots of time for reviewer to write their stuff.

This would be a very interesting thread if they were priced the same as the HEK or a little lower.

A new Audeze that has the signature of the LCD 3 but has clear improvements across the board. That sounds great to me. Really great. This is great news guys! Take my hand, let's all get excited!

Unfortunately nearly everybody that has reviewed them has taken the price into consideration (as they should).

What would you think if sennheiser released the 2016 Momentums at $1000? The sound would, and will never get the credit it deserves. And that's the real shame about this situation.

It would be very interesting to be a fly on the wall in their management meetings and see what kind of damage control they are planning over the final quarter of this year.

No Middy, I had them months ago before opting for the Abyss. Nice to know a pad change circumvents the issue.

It's something to consider when I order my 3f. Just wish I could afford the 4.. Just remodelled the entire down stairs... I got my OPPO HA1 passed the wife.. 4k no chance.
I hope Tyll has a LCD4 review unit soon.. No disrespect to reviewers here..

I believe Tyll tends to just not review the things he doesn't like. The LCD xc, nearly all of the grados, HD700 and so on.
