Audeze LCD-4

I'm not saying STAX are bad headphones, they are excellent.  I invested a lot of time and money trying to get a STAX system to work for me.  After listening to 009's for a month, I went back to my LCD-3's and tube amps; I got almost weepy at how beautiful it sounded compared to the SR009's.   Maybe our differences of opinion have to do with the type of music, and/or other stereo gear in the signal chain.

Just want to say that I spoke with Mark at Audeze and we had pleasant conversation about the issues I experienced. I unexpectedly ended up being the accidental guinea pig for the new ordering process as the first person who ordered since the system change, and they've used my experience to help work out all the kinks so hopefully future orders will go smoothly. Some of the communication mixups (about accessories, etc.) were just because of different departments working on the problems that came up. Now that I know more about what was going on, I think Audeze did a good job of handling it quickly, and hopefully orders will be smooth for future customers. :)

Thank you for reaching out to me. I received the email and voicemail (unfortunately can't talk on the phone while at work). While I appreciate the apology and I'm glad the checkout issues have been fixed for other customers, I wasn't expecting the voicemail to be a second request to call back and choose my accessories on an order I've requested to cancel twice now after all the problems...

What accessories were they referring to? Does it come with anything else other than what is listed on their stie?

That sounds like fantastic customer service and response!

Glad to hear about your conversation. So, did you put an order in again?

This whole "outperforms electrostats" thing is eating away at my soul.

If anyone is able to compare the LCD-4 to the SR-009—or finds a comparison online—please share your impressions in depth or link me to them!

Well considering the costs will only get perhaps a headrest on the lambo - no not even close

That was kinda my point. Those carbon fiber upgrades for supercars are over the top. I didn't mean fully upgraded, though; I just meant that carbon fiber is expensive, and a carbon fiber headphone would probably be around the same cost as a (as in a single) carbon fiber upgrade for a car like that.

In order for me to drop $4k on a set of cans, they'd have to make me bust a nut every time I listened with them...

Yeah I think it's impossible for a non-electrostatic headphone to reach the levels of transparency offered by lower end electrostats, much less the SR-009.  Even KingSound electrostats are more transparent to my ears than the HiFiMan HE1000, HE-6, Sennheiser HD 800, Audeze LCD-3, Beyerdynamic T1.  For me, the SR-007 is such an easy choice over the orthos and dynamic headphones I just mentioned.

I'll definitely audition the LCD-4 at some point.  Hopefully someone brings it to the NY Audio Show this year, granted I'm not 100% sure I'll be able to make it this year.

They only mentioned a choice of wood and cable (I assume for the ear cups and 1/4" or XLR). I would imagine they'd let you pick one or the other case, too, but I don't know for sure.

Thanks. I decided not to order myself. Maybe later on down the road but I just can't justify that price right now.  My LCD-3's sound great and cost less than half too.

Not the same headphone. LCD-Z due out early next year. More expensive.

Um, yeah. You just said that. I meant that since I was going to wait until at least next year before buying the LCD-4 anyway, it's a good thing, since apparently an even more expensive and better headphone, the LCD-Z, is coming out, which I will probably be interested in.
