I have a great deal of respect for the iSine series. They are very high resolution and have very little distortion. Just not a fan of their tuning. Things sound disjointed due to the tonality being weird.

That said, I love their mids. Vocals seem to come from within the head...as if you're singing the song yourself. It has a nice airy feel too. Soundstage is fantastic (as expected of an open IEM) and the layering + imaging is incredible for the asking price.

I hope that audeze will fix the tuning issues with the (hopefully) iSine 30. Great IEM.

‘Tone’ isn’t really an objective term in audio, but if you go by the use of Tone controls such as Bass and Treble, then yes, tone is the same as EQ. It's an adjustment of various frequencies, either down or up.

On the Head-Fi glossary page it says 'Tone: - The sound of definite pitch' which means absolutely nothing to me I'm afraid.

I'm unable to quantify the term either. It's just overprocessed and unnatural. It's not something that EQ can solve...at least with what I've tried. Snares don't sound like snares. Guitars don't sound like guitars etc.

I did look but couldn't see if you'd already said...have you listened to them with EQ or a Cipher cable?

That's weird. I find them very realistic. I normally go between the iSine 20s and Sennheiser HD6xx. Oh well, that's the 'magic' of headphones I guess

Sounds like you're saying the timbre is not too your liking, and EQ won't fix that.

Do you like any other planars? I do not like my oppo pm-3s.... To me the timbre is all wrong, I'm wondering if it's just planars in general for some of us, I guess I'll see when these arrive.

The word I'd use to describe the pm-3s is "lifeless". They're cold, clinical, precise, but there is just a sort of hollowness to the sound and lack of Dynamics that makes them boring and unnatural sounding, like all the emotion is being sucked out of the music.

Correct...I do not enjoy the timbre. But don't get me wrong - it's 100% a good IEM. I respect the amount of thought put into creating these. It's midrange is pretty heavenly.

That's all the fun of head-fi..people perceive things differently. While people may find some things to be very neutral, I may find them to be colored.

No, I have not...I'll be giving them another shot after today's back and forth with regards to the tone and timbre. I want to believe that this IEM is deserves all its hype.

The thing is, you like the audeze "timbre" "housesound" "signature" or you don't
It has something unique, it's planar yes but still a special planar timbre, it's audeze

Honestly, I hate these things with silicone tips. The reason I knew that is I had purchased the Monoprice m300. They came with 3 pairs of silicone and one thin pair of foam. The silicone we're bright, mids we're lacking, similar to the iSine. I tried the foam and, HELLO NURSE! Full sounding, nice, crisp, musical. The key is that these phones do not want a tight seal. I'm a medium tip in typical IEM, so I use a small memory foam tip. Just enough to touch areas of ear canal but not enough to seal it. With these tips the planar bass is tight, the mids are on point, the highs are good. I'm not saying that the cipher eq doesn't do more, but honestly I don't need it, with good small foam tips. Soundstage is wide, sound is musical, and I don't feel as though anyrhany is missing. ItsI definitely worth a shot. We all know that there is cetaincer a diffwrdiff in the presentation of silicone vs foam, so that is something you really need to try

Yeah, if you don't like the tone signature a EQ won't help with this either
EQ can only enhance what already excist, but cannot change the whole "house signature"
I love the sound signature, but i can image some don't it is something special indeed

No "tone" and "signature" are very different things
