I've got to think a sub $1K model makes more business sense.

I think EL-8 meaning Elate is the most sensible speculation so far.  Clever, at least.  I think hoping these are less than $700 is wishful thinking, but everything in this thread so far is pure speculation, so who knows

Since this is differemt from the Z project and does not compete with the LCD line I'm pretty sure that it will fall in the sub 1000$ range.
I'm just hoping that it's closed since the sub-1000$ closed headphone sector is lacking.

The closed headphone sector is lacking in general.

If you want a truly great sounding open-backed home listening headphone you have enormous choice and Audeze already owns a nice chunk of that market.

If you want portable high end, it's all IEMs. The headphones are generally good and mid fi, or aim for highend but are highly flawed.

That's why any thread here about a new closed back portable always blow up - everyone is waiting for "the one" to turn up.

I would take "portable" to mean easily driven by a portable device.
