Audeze EL-8: The EL-8 is a must-hear at CES 2015

So is this going to be an open back portable? That sounds like a bad idea to me.

Maybe that look is only etched partway into a solid cup? I was thinking the same thing though. Open backed portable isn't the best idea, unless portable is just relative to the rest of their lineup, so in this case transportable/lightweight?

I have a feeling they're not going to have that vent designed that way, I bet it will be closed back with the "A" design thing on the cups somewhere near the bottom middle.

This A.

I hope it will be a sub $700/350g planner in size similar to the Oppo PM1. I was about to pull the trigger to buy a Grado PS500e until I see this.

What would really be great is if these were an entry level planar like the T50RP, but it won't be. Audeze knows it's name sells and probably want to stay in the high end market. Too bad.

If they can bring these in under $1k, with their reputation and those looks, I don't think it matters WHAT they sound like!  lol

Looking forward to swinging by their booth later this week!

(Off topic, but it was mentioned enough:  anyone know if Oppo will be at CES?  I couldn't find them on the vendor list...)

Has anyone confirmed that these EL-8s have any connection to Prototype Z?  Or are they two completely different projects?

.....I know, I know, wait till Tuesday.

both hifiman and audeze launched light weight planars at similar time.

both benefited by advancements made by driver vendors? if so, I am glad audiophiles invested in this tech so as to make it affordable and advanced at same time.
