ATTICUS and EIKON, the new dynamic driver headphones from ZMF

I remember originally the driver housings were going to be ceramic, I see that it has changed to ABS now. Can you elaborate on why you ended up making that decision and how it will impact sound. I was impressed when I saw you would be using ceramic because it is difficult to manufacture, more expensive, and potentially prone to breaking. All also reasons that I assume contributed to your decision to change. But ceramic is much more stiff and if the right composition is used, and it is well tuned noise can be pushed out of the audible range.

@zack915M could you elaborate on why you prefer the atticus over the eikon for electric guitar rich music? Or is it the dynamic of rock music with bass, drums and guitar?

I just like the extra "oomph" that the Atticus has for impactful hard-rock/metal type music.  It's less neutral for sure, but it sounds more exciting to my ears to have that "girth" in the mid bass/lower mids.  Also the touch of warmth makes the crunch of guitars a little easier on my ears.  Don't egt me wrong the Eikon sounds absolutely fantastic and for a lot of this stuff has a wider stage/blacker background so it will deal with more complex music slightly better, so take this as my subjective thoughts only!

Our MFR was 3d printing a ceramic hybrid and we found out and tested ABS material that is just as strong and almost as heavy per our MFR's request.  They were having issues with the printing process and to cut down lead time recommended a high density ABS.  In testing I found that I couldn't hear or measure a difference so I decided to go with the ABS material.  Unfortunately the ceramic housing at least with this design had only marketing as it's true advantage.

The picture on the site actually shows one of the ceramic type 3d print drivers as all of our other ones are in prototypes.  I will update the website with more driver pictures later on when we have more drivers that are not in headphones.

Oh no, we're all competitors now.

I'm really overwhelmed by the response to these, I promise to get all orders out as fast as possible!

I hope to be able to catch the Zmf Eikon on the first run, I've always wanted to give your stuff a try but avoided doing so because of the T50 drivers.

Only con for me is I'll most likely end up selling my LCD-2 and Lyr 2 to experiment with a suitable OTL amp.

FWIW our first run will be 75 headphones (Eikon or Atticus).  It won't be too difficult to get a second run going, I will let you guys know any ETA info as needed.

Also, @Hisoundfi has been telling me how much he loves the Eikon with the Obravo Ocean.  That little amp surprises me every time I hear it.  It even drives the t50 stuff well.  He does have some fancy mullard that probably cost as much as the amp in it tho lols.

Yeah - it's not bad and someone told me the Garage 1217 guys used to mod it or something?  I'm really not sure.  Don't want to start rumors!  But yeah - in the $100 dollar range if you want something to just do the job it's not a bad option, I personally haven't heard it with the ZMF dynamics.

I love finding those little things that have excellent value.   Now all I need to do is save up for the tube upgrade.

On a different topic, will the Eikon pads be available for purchase separately sometime during or after the Eikon/Atticus preorder period?

Thanks Zach!

I been looking at the Val-2 and crack w/speedball any other otl amp ($500ish)that would match well with the Eikon or Atticus?

I've been eyeballing the Feliks Elise.  There are a few threads for it, and people seem to regard it highly.  The Espressivo is looking good too.

Not sure if I'll dive into tubes any time soon though.   The tube rolling + my OCD would put me into bankruptcy.

I believe the Eikon pads are available now for purchase.  The website allowed me to add it to my cart at least.

Has that PayPal option always been there? I went through and did a mock shopping cart with a pair of omnis to see if you had PayPal and didn't see it. Transferred my PayPal funds to my bank today so I could put it on my card. I'd rather pay without using play pal anyways as then you'd be stuck with a 2.9% fee
