ATTICUS and EIKON, the new dynamic driver headphones from ZMF

Thanks guys!

The Aune s7 is excellent for the price. It's clarity is exceptional, good balance and soundstage with good detail retrieval. My preference for both of these releases are tube amps. The Odin sounds better to me on the Aune S7 than one of the high end tube amps I am reviewing. The Aune S7 sounds good with the Eikon but hits harder and more realistic on fully tube amps.

Gotcha...thanks. It's the synergy. I might have to rethink the balanced cable I got with my Eikon...the consensus seems to be tubes are the way to go.

Thanks for the input.

Mines running off a Yggy/Rag combo and I think it sounds wonderful.  No tubes needed.

Has anyone tried Atticus or Eikon with the Airist Audio Heron 5? I'm really into that design, especially at the new price of $1k instead of $2k. I love the high power, single ended design with two jacks, one for high impedance cans, and one for low. There's very little about the amp on Head-Fi since Airist is a new company and this is their only product, with an R2R DAC due out soon, but with the revisions they've made and the new price, plus the stellar reviews of it with the HD800, it seems like it would be a perfect match. If I go this route it would match my LCD-2 and Atticus extremely well, it seems.

I think the Eikon sounds amazing straight out of the DAVE. I actually like it better than out of the WA22 because the bass is tighter and better controlled.

I will be checking those out soon, big electronica fan myself. Have you tried Phutureprimitive? Also, one of the best bass experiences but not in a bombastic way has to be a song from Deadmau5's 2016 album, W:\APPPLAY I think is the title. The track is number 11 Whelk Then. Trust me on this one, it is available on Tidal. Tomorrow I'm checking out this list of yours. Cheers.

I should hope so!! The price difference between the two is not inconsiderable. I have hope that I'll be perfectly satisfied with my Hugo, but I'm curious of the differences... this hobby is insane. If you have a DAVE, I'm sure you understand.

If I had the scratch, I'd probably want a Milo, I've heard that & was VERY happy with how that sounded... Time will tell.

On a happy note, I received my shipment notification!!

It's only a matter of time now!

Yup, Dyson Audio is currently making me a 2m balanced cable that will work with my Hifiman HE-400S and Audioquest Nighthawk.  If you email them directly they will give you 9% off of the Ebay price.

I'm actually really curious if I am going to prefer my Eikon running balanced out of a Jotunheim or SE out of a Valhalla 2.  It will be nice to have both options but right now my gut is telling me it's going to be the Val.

Of course it may just come down to the type of music and my mood on any given day.  They both have their own sound signature and ultimately both should be good in different ways.

Between the Eikon and Atticus which one is best for Jazz?  Classical?  EDM?

Thanks guys

I just read your last few posts to see what gear you are going to be using, and I can help. If I were in your shoes, I would keep the Mojo, pick up a Cavalli Liquid Carbon used off the sale forum, and get the Eikon with a balanced cable.

For one, the Liquid Carbon is "about the size of a book" and can easily fit in a backpack, as you requested.

For two, Eikon + Liquid Carbon is a super synergistic combo, and LC was one of my favorite pairings with Eikon when I reviewed the it.

For three, Carbon + Mojo is another synergistic combo, and an often recommended pairing. They both perform WAY above their pricepoint.

Four, both headphones are great all rounders when it comes to classical, jazz and EDM. Atticus is more midbassy, while Eikon has more subbass focus, so they both have advantages on EDM, I kind of prefer the Eikon for it because the bass is so clean and extends so far down into the lowest, deepest rumbles. I also think it is the better classical headphone because it feels more spacious. I would go so far as to say it's one of the best closed headphones for classical period (if not the best. IMHO, YMMV). Jazz is a super diverse genre, so hard to say between the two... in many ways, it's a wash.

In my opinion this is a pretty easy solve: Mojo + Liquid Carbon + Eikon w/ balanced cable. You'll be riding a sonic gravy train with biscuit wheels, my friend.

Cheers! :)

Hey man thank you for taking the time to understand my situation!  I'm going to purchase the liquid carbon.  Hopefully Zach can change my order to use 4-pin XLR

Definitely excited for my future setup!
