Well the cups are slightly different (supposedly makes then bit more bassy)- but yes, other then that they're are the same.

What are the differences btwn. the 1001 and the 1000's?

I think I will wait for a bit for a deal on the 1001's but they do sound good to start with. Do they have 'Denon' sound? I guess that sounds like a stupid question. I will also keep an eye out for deals on the 2000. Any other suggestions, like old models?

I pulled the trigger and went ahead and ordered some. One Call has the 1000's (which are exactly the same as the 1001 except no pouch) for $99.77.

1001 are very good cans for the 90.00 I paid for them.They are very open as stated above for closed cans sound stage well have great mids and bass. they do not dissapoint at least for me.

Another vote for the D2K. Very nice cans for the money.
