So i went to Guitar Center to sample out the M50's. I didn't really like it that much. To me, it sounded similar, maybe just as well, as my ipod earphones. Now, i'm still debating whether or not to buy these headphones, because they're my first "high-quality" ones. People claimed that the m50's had better, if not similar bass to the Dr. Dre beats, but i can't hear it. I even listened to ALAC quality music, just to see if that was a factor, but it wasn't. My 128 kbps music played better using Dr. Dre headphones. So, should i still buy the headphones? Btw, are the Dr. Dre beats (studio) in bestbuy amped? What about "burning - in" headphones. Will that increase the bass, mids, highs, etc. in the m50's ?

Note: I am new to this music, thing.

I might consider buying the Sennheiser HD 555 instead :P

Probably better to post this in one of the other 900 M50 threads.

The bass on the M50s is pretty overrated on this board. In terms of quantity its not great, but it is tight and has pretty good depth.

If you can't tell the difference between the M50 and the Ipod Earbuds or even hear bass on the M50s, why even upgrade? If you can't tell the difference on the M50, I doubt any cheaper headphones will make it any easier.

Sometimes when I get sick it's hard to tell how good a headphone is. Especially when I have allergies and i'm congested. Sound quality of a headphone also seems to degrade when I'm extremely tired of stressed.

If you didn't hear a difference, why even consider buying the M50? I doubt burn-in would help that much, but maybe. My M50's didn't seem to benefit much from burn-in.

The Sennheiser 555 for most people would be a step down and it has a lot less bass then the M50.

No headphones at Best Buy are amped. You're not using an Ipod Shuffle are? Maybe that could be the problem

Can tiny Mp3 players like that even power the M50 decently? Seems like it'd be difficult.

did you like how beats studio sounded? if you did, fallow your heart. but heart often changes. that's why we don't recommand anybody new to headphone to buy expensive cans as start out. if bass is your thing, why not try sony xb500 a $50 bass puching phone first. i listened to my friend's beats studio and got bored very quickly, i now prefer a more balanced sound, maybe a little bit bass heavy.

Thanks tdockweiler/Rich77. I guess i'll probably get them another time or not at all

Yeah like like I said start off with something cheap. My first set was $20 and that made me realize, hey I kinda like this headphone deal, and bough $100 M50s.

But like I said, I'm certainly no audiophile like these guys, but if you can't differentiate between iBuds and M50s then you really shouldn't spend money on more expensive headphones that, in your case is actually worse. They would be less portable, depending on your style will make you look stupid, and if you lose then it's a $100. If you lose your iBuds it's what...$5?

I know you want to upgrade, I get the same way but do this: go wait two weeks. Look into it more and if you lose interest you saved $100 if you really feel you need an upgrade then maybe reconsider the purchase, but usually for me, 2 weeks-1 month and I realize wait, I won't ever use this, and I don't need to spend my money on it.

I just listened to M50 yesterday , and I didnt like it . For overall presentation , I like 840s over the M50s. The only thing that M50s stand out over the 840s are the bass . But I need stronger bass ! M50s
bass couldn't satisfy me , are Pro900s bass surpass M50 a lot ?

I'm not sure you'd have to ask somebody who knows more than me haha, but do a search there's an absurd amount of M50 threads here, I'm sure you can find one comparing 900s to M50s.

Now that someone is asking, what has more bass then the M50? I'm just curious.

I know the 750DJ does, but how about the DT-770? Anything else?

I have the AKG K240, but I highly doubt they have more bass then the M50. The bass quality is probably worse on the K240 though.

I guess it's considered a very bass heavy headphone, but doesn't seem too bad since with an amp the bass is well controlled and doesn't feel boomy.

I guess the D2000 is another.

DT770Pro has more bass than M50.
DT770 (Consumer Edition) has less bass than M50.
D2000/5000/7000 has deeper bass than M50.
