hi, i've been given a chance to buy some mdr v900hds from a friend at school for 120-140$ but i've heard such great things about the m50s and i was just wondering which ones are better. i'm not going to be hooking them up to an amp, i'll just be using them for day to day listening and maybe get into creating some dubstep and remixes. thanks. oh and i love bass

if that would influence the decision.

i have had both. i prefer the m50. the sony feels plasticky and cheap, has a pronounced v shaped eq curve. the m50 is built better, pleasing, warmer sound. and the bass digs deeper, but both are bassy

I like the M50 better as well, I demoed the MDR 900's at a local audio shop and thought that the sound was not as good as the M50's.
