Hey guys,

I realise that the Akg-k450s are not full headphones, but would like to hear your opinions on their different sound qualities, and whether either of them require headphone amps.

Thanks.

Both are easy to drive but the atm50s will have better soundstage, treble, and better balance with an ever so slight v shaped curve. The k450s are the same as my q460s I think and there is no comparison. The AT M50s are well recognized for a reason. If you want a relatively balanced set of cans that sound good with whatever you throw at it then AT50s. Good overall sound, isolation, efficiency, durability, not very portable but they work.

The AKGs have tremendous bass response like the Monster beats solo but at normal listening volumes the treble is at the back of the stage with the subwoofers in front of you. As volume increases this imbalance works itself out but at loud and possibly unhealthy volumes.
