I didn't have the rattle until I accidentally bumped the voice coil wires a bunch while modding, so here's what I did:

Before:

After:
W5000 Voice Coil 2.jpg

Rattle of Doom: 0
Too Extreme Tweaking: 1

(I don't advise any of you to try this on your own pair of W5000s, you may very well destroy one or both drivers)

Fitz,
I can't see jack in your small little pics, care for explain ?

I tried sk138's method and it works great, I wedged 4 pieces of soft foam between the plastic ring and the driver housing that is on top of it, it's easy and solved the problem.

very well indeed, sound it back to be bassy.

Wow...I have a mod named after me now

I see now the de-facto W5000 testing method is Massive Attack's - Angel...hehe.

Just cranked up Massive Attack - Angel as high as I could stand, and it sounds clean as can be.

Same here.

Massive Attack - Angel is as good a track as any to check low bass performance.

Volume cranked up, I can only stand it for the first 30 seconds before my ears chickened out.

For a moment almost made redundant by the good work from SK138!

I may have to get give in and get myself a copy of Mezzanine just for kicks and giggles...

My defining track is Scorpion Frog, Converting Vegetarian CD1, Infected Mushroom.

Speaking of Infected Mushroom, did you know they are Israeli based group ?

Back to the subject, I think the song(Massive attack - Angel) is a very demanding one, in terms of dynamics that the headphone needs to comply to.
This is the main reason why I haven't got into the rattle before, but I guess I'm not alone, me and the Audio Technica engineers, they should listen to more trip hop and bass heavy stuff :p

That's cause Jack was in the other room getting some more Mountain Dew.

The voice coil wires had way too much slack on them, forming two big loops of wire. Unless they were in the perfectly right position (which they weren't after I knocked them around too many times), they would rattle against each other or the side of the opening. I pulled the slack to either side of the opening and glued it down, so that only as much wire as necessary was left.
