Astell & Kern SR25: The next A&norma player

Hello again after quite some time,

I am about to get Beyerdynamic dt 770 pro to pair with my SR 25.

The question is, which version should I get? 250 ohm or 80 ohm? Can SR25 drive 250 ohm version to its full potential?

And even if it does, what differences would they have, 80 and 250 ohm? I read about 80 ohms being less bright on treble att higher volumes which would be a good thing for this headphones considering the bright characteristic of its trebles.

Help please

I’d go with the 80hm for SE but the balanced out could absolutely work the the 250ohm you just need the 2.5mm cable.

We usually recommend a max of 300 ohm headphones for the A&norma line players. The SR25 should drive the 250 ohm without issue in balanced mode. In unbalanced, you might find there is not enough power.

Thanks for all for replies. Sorry for repeating myself but I am pretty new to wired headphones.

@JasonNYC can you confirm that sr25 can drive 80 ohms headphones in unbalanced mode? I have my eyes on beyerdynamic dt 770 pro, and unfortunately that headphone doesnt have balanced input.

And as far as I understand, for home listening, therenis notnmuch difference between 80 ohms and 250 ohms headphones, correct?

Thanks again for bearing with me, gonna pull the trigger in couple days 🙂

Should be no issue at all driving 80ohm headphones from the unbalanced port.

whats the bettery life of MK2 via balanced output?
In my real world experience, it doesn't affect battery life too much. Single ended with my Meze Rai Penta, I can get about 7 hours (i'm at about 15% battery left), balanced maybe 6.

Hi all, I still have a weird issue where when I use the sr25 as a transport for my dac (smsl vmv d1se) the dap connects disconnects reconnects etc. and sometimes shows the wrong file type on the dac and then the dap says the “unplayable music has been moved”
It’s very frustrating and I cant figure out what it might be.
Any ideas???

Thank you! By the way, is draining the battery to zero better for its performance/life? Should I do so every time before new charging?
Not recommended by the battery manufacturers to allow a battery to completely run all the way down to zero. It could decrease the life of the battery. Battery manufacturers recommend not letting the battery fall below 5%. It is ok to let it completely run down to zero on occasion, but should not be done regularly for best battery health and life.

That used to be the case with nickel/cadmium batteries which developed a memory if they were only partiaally discharged. Lithium ion or lithium polymer the opposite is true, they last better if you don't fully disscharge them. :L3000:
