Astell & Kern SR25: The next A&norma player

Hi. I have both those daps. Have had m6pro for a few months and recently purchased SR25.
SR25 battery indeed lasts much longer between charges. M6pro needs juice after every long session, so after about 5 hrs playtime running balanced medium gain, approx.
M6pro has a fuller, less neutral sound, warmer. It’s also more powerful in terms of output. Screen is a good deal larger, and you can install third party music player apps easily. I use UAPP on it cuz M6pro native Shanling player does not do gapless playback. Also, you get three gain settings, which is nice. It’s also heavier and larger. Volume wheel is very solid, nice tactility.
SR25 sounds quite smooth and balanced in contrast. I’m really enjoying it. Seems powerful enough for VE Ely and Volt on balanced. Volume rarely above 90/150 with Ely. Native AK music player is pretty good. No complaints so far.
Different DACs also. M6pro uses dual AK97s, and SR25 dual CS ones.
I cant really recommend one over the other except for specific use cases. Better battery life is a big plus with SR25. Also, volume adjustment is more granular with SR25. M6pro I have a hard time getting volume just exactly perfect as it jumps a little too much between clicks.
Thank you very much for a detailed answer! What about the soundstage? This is the main factor for me. I auditioned sr25 and it wasn't quality jump over my pioneer xdp-300r. Only dynamics were noticeably higher but the rest of the sound was on at least same level. I found my pioneer even airer sounding. Considering that xdp-300r was from the same price range, i didn't expect high quality jump bit have heard many good things about m6 pro, that it shoots way above it's tier. I loved sr25 but it was rather side grade for me.

Well, I can’t say about the stage. It hasn’t struck me one way or the other. To me it’s more a function of iems. Even if I listened intent to compare I probably couldn’t say definitively

Thanks, I am not great at this stuff. It is a shame there are not some presets built into the SR25 to play around with.
No problem! Glad to help! Then it depends on what you want to achieve: Are you going for a tuning towards a target curve like the Harman "neutral" (or something else) or just want to find your own tuning that you are happy with?

I got logged out of Tidal last night. Now when I try to log back in to the built in Tidal app I get “Authentification failed. unknown error”. I did all the resets. Downloaded the Tidal app And was able to sign on. I even changed passwords. I can sign on to my other devices. Any ideas.?

I get the same as well as on the SE200. Apparently its being looked into by Astell & Kern who have asked Tidal what's going on... Still no update.

We are aware of the issue and have been in touch with Tidal. I will share more info when I have an update.

On the subject of Tidal was it ever confirmed as to whether Tidal files are output without resampling? Both with the pre-loaded and side-loaded apps.
yes, full unfold with both. If you search this thread, it has been discussed multiple times.

Any update on this issue Jason? I'm still getting the same error when trying to log into the embedded Tidal app on the SR25.
Still working on it. Last update I saw during the night was that Tidal made a policy change and did not update our dev team. They were speaking to Tidal on how to resolve the issue. I am not sure what needs to be done or how long it will take for a fix. I should hopefully have more info when the HQ team is back to work on Monday.

Not arguing with you, just trying to clarify why different dealers have different warranty periods listed. As I mentioned above, I work for the North America team, so not sure how the warranty works for the UK especially with the changes. I will pass this along to the HQ team for clarification.

Just to confirm, you said you reached out to the UK team. They told you repairs would not be covered under warranty? Feel free to PM me if you would rather. The more info you can provide that I can pass along to the team in Korea, the better.
Hi Jason,

Have you got my PM that I sent you earlier?.
