Astell & Kern SE100: A&futura Impressions - Reviews

Ok, so I'm having regular problems in editing my m3u playlist. I don't always want to add new music to the end of my playlist, so would rather edit them. I use Notepad++ and make sure that the line endings are correct and that the encoding is correct (UTF-8). I copy the playlist file out of the SE100 and insert the new files, making sure the path is the same as the others.

Whenever I copy the file back to the SE100, the entire file is wiped to 0 songs.

Playlist as created on SE100:

Playlist edited to be copied back to SE100:

If I copy the first file back to the device, it also gets zapped to 0 songs.

I'm mounting the SE100 using MTP. What am I doing wrong here?

@JasonNYC Any word on Roon support? Picked up a cheaper DAP as a kick around unit. Doesn't sound anywhere near as good as the SE100, but I find myself using it around the house instead as it has Airplay and works with Roon. Maybe if AK has some sticking points with Roon, you could look at adding Airplay? Thanks...

BTW, in case anyone is wondering the SE100 works great as a DAC for Roon bridge (I use Linux) bit perfect including MQA, but of course you are then tethered to your PC:frowning2:

I have been considering putting a Raspberry PI, battery and the SE100 in a shoulder bag, but it's a bit of a sad solution LOL

Can anyone explain the SE100 EQ functionality to me? When I create a new preset and before I make any edits to the curve, shouldn't there be no change in the sound (yet)? For instance, if I add a preset, and name it "test" but I do not move any of the sliders yet, wouldn't this be "flat" and have no sonic change as I toggle that "test" preset on and off? When I try this, I hear a noticeable change in volume gain. As I enable EQ the volume is reduced and as I disable it the volume increases. Why? Is there some processing happening even with a flat preset?

Thanks

I cannot explain in details, but the EQ consumes power, that’s why the sound lowers. You will have to raise it first. Then for each headset, I make a dedicated preset, and always use the same few tracks to fine tune the sound as I like.

Where I started to better understand the equaliser: https://www.google.fr/amp/s/www.digitaltrends.com/home-theater/eq-explainer/?amp

No.
The volume decreases when you enable eq so you dont blow your ears out if you have boosted any frequencies, this is by design and a safety feature.

Good morning everyone,

I hooked my SE100 to my computer to upgrade the tidal app but unfortunately my computer can not "acknowledge" the SE100. I can see the changes on the Android File Transfer app but that doesn't mirror in the SE100. For example , according to the Android File Transfer app, I uploaded the newest tidal app. That's not the case when I check the services section at SE100. Does this happen to anyone? Thank you!!

I have another question. The newest updates for tidal and apple music are "xapk" (apkpure). Any solutions for this @JasonNYC ?

XAPX support will be added in the next firmware update, tentatively scheduled for the end of March/first week of April, but the date may slide due to COVID-19 office closures, etc.

I apologize, it looks like this didn't post on Friday:

To our North American customers,

As we all continue to adjust our daily lives during the global COVID-19 pandemic, we wanted to share an update on how we are responding in the USA in serving the Astell&Kern customers for North America.

First and foremost, the health and safety of our employees, customers and partners is our top priority and drives every decision we make, especially during this critical time. We would like to take this time to review the adjustments we are making and how that may impact your experience:

While this may create some delays, we will be here to support you to our full capacity. You can reach us by email at support@theinvixion.com or by phone at (949) 336-4540 where a voicemail can be left and a team member will follow up in the order that each inquiry was received.

With safety and enhanced caution in mind, our dedicated team will continue to prepare your online orders.
