Astell&Kern Launches New A&norma SR35 Player

I can't comment about that, I've never owned any of the Kanns. My point was there's only so much you can do with current technology to make things small. If you want high power output you can have a a small battery or long battery life, but not both (you can only "fit" so many Joules in a given volume). Likewise, if you want a small DAP you can either have high power output or long battery life, but not both.

One of my buddies has an early Kann and loves it. But he also carries and "audio bag" with him, so his Kann is never in his pocket.
Totally agree you can’t have both.

Dunno.
There must be SR35 MK II. Just like back then AK70 got an upgrade to AK70 MK II and AK SR15 to SR25 and SR25 MK II. I do believe there will be SR35 MK II.
I don't know what are they going to add as upgrade or selling point. Maybe premium DAC? or output power? Design?, I don't know. time will tell.
lolz.... believe in something that you dunno... then when MKII comes out, you will expect SR45 to be launch sooner or later.. AK70 to AK70 MKII has the similar concept like SR25 but SR15 have no MKII, a more premium dac is a totally different dap...

Nothing wrong from hoping something better. You dunno what the future hold but, you know you can hope a something at the future.

Very interesting for traveling with only 184g weight.

A few questions @JasonNYC
1. Does it work with the Roon app and Roon Arc in order to stream from a NAS?
2. Which SOC is used - Snapdragon 6xx?
3. Which Android Version does it use - > v11?

I keep forgetting to post this: I'm not a Roon user, but I could see being excited about using Roon with a DAP.

I saw a comparison table with DAPs somewhere SR25MKII. SoC from Rock Chip and specialized Android 9 was specified there.
Therefore, I think that the same approach will be used here.

PS. I found it:

I doubt the SOC if it's upgraded will be a snapdragon as it is specified as a quad core. Even the lower end snapdragon 435 is an octa core. If it's upgraded, my guess would be the RK3566 which is still a decent improvement. With how much A&K lock down their android OS (for better or worse), probably comes the ability to shut down a lot of background processes to improve performance. And the new UI might be based on a later version of android, but I can't find anything on that yet.

Either way it can't be worse than my X7 Mk.II that I'm looking to replace.
I remember listening to the SR15 when was trying out different DAP's. This was right after it released and the store I was at had just gotten their shipment so the owner let me try his unit. And while it sounded the best out of all I've tried at that point, it's price (€799,-) was way to high for a DAP with specs worse than that of a €150,- DAP. That's why I ended up with the X7 Mk.II. But I did like the design of it, kind of quirky but actually makes a lot of sense when you hold it. So hoping that it would get a improved version (or a massive sale) I kept tabs on it. The SR25's where a big improvement and this new SR35 I think might actually worth the asking price.
Now I just have to wait some time for the release and for a store where I can actually try it.

does SR35 support Roon ARC? And..most important when will SP2000 support Roon ARC?
Roon ARC will not be supported out of the box, but may be available in a future firmware update. SP2000 will not support Roon ARC as Roon ARC requires a newer version of Android OS that what is used on the SP2000.

The SR35 will be Roon Ready upon release. Support for Roon ARC will not be available out of the box, but may come in a future firmware update.

2. Which SOC is used - Snapdragon 6xx?
Not sure. I asked the hardware team, but did not receive a response.

3. Which Android Version does it use - > v11?
11

As someone who has owned the SR15, SR25, and the SR25 MKII, I'm curious to see the reviews come out on this one. I loved the form factor and general UI of the SR25/SR25 MKII but was very disappointed by the wifi and bluetooth performance on both devices as well as how laggy and slow it was with 3rd party apps such as Spotify and Apple Music. I know the ideal way to enjoy a DAP is with wired headphones, but would rather switch to my true wireless IEMs when going to the gym or on a run. The connection range on the previous models was abysmal as when I'd even so much as go outside or to the gym, the connection would stutter and drop constantly even on the SBC setting. So I sold the SR25 MKII a year and a half ago and bought an IBasso DX300 which I'm still using to this day. I love the DX300 but a "portable" player it is not. Very large and bulky and has essentially turned into my desktop unit. I'd love to give AK another chance. If wifi, bluetooth and 3rd party app performance have improved, this could be the perfect portable player in my eyes.

Ditto Dito 🤩

Contemplating replacing my SP3000 with this if it doesn’t stutter like the old A&Ks. Only reason is that I’ve come to find the SP3000 too heavy.
I fell back in love with my original SR25, as my love for the sound and UI of my SP3000 was being outweighed by my paranoia of dropping that beast somewhere/somehow. Sure, the sound is not as engrossing, but that little SR25 has reasserted itself as a welcome addition to exercise and portability. It definitely makes me interested in the SR35! The SP3000 needs to stay a homebody!
