Astell & Kern AK70 MKII with dual DAC

Didn't think I would see hi-res pics of the Fate Stay Night limited edition AK70 MkII on head-fi first.

Haha, yeah I haven't really seen anyone talking about it here, but I really like the fate series and this came out the about the same time as when I started looking for an upgrade for my fiio x5 1st gen, so I preordered it really early on. And the purple is really something else. Of course the sound quality is just as good as it looks Just got my balanced cable last night and I've been listening to it non stop.

Having seen the real thing at Akiba's e-earphone I must say the purple is indeed very nicely produced and formed.

For the AK70 there were a lot of nice colour variations (the blue and white ones were also very nice) so I'm just waiting to see what other colour variations and special editions they will do for the MK2.

Oh yes the AK70 color variants reminded me a lot of the ipod nanos, the true blue and oriental red version really popped.

For MKII there's apparently a 5th anniversary edition already, I don't think they are taking orders currently though, and quite frankly it is a bit.. bland? I can't see myself using one without a case haha.
But I'm sure they will have like 8 different special editions again .

Think I've asked before no response Amy Kann owners compare sq only to kann and mk 2,,sq only,,does duel dacs make difference in sq, I have Kann love it but wondering about duel dacs in mk2,,compared to kann

I also wonder if 240mk2 on the way??

I just got the MKII today. Its design is simply irresistable. My local store offered a bonus of ATH-M40x for each purchase, which is a good deal for me. This is going to be the first A&K DAP in my possession. I was impressed with the sound of AK240 tried several months ago. But couldn't afford the price. So the AK70-MKII is a good compromise IMO (or perhaps upgrade?) It's too tempting not to get.

Will be comparing with OPUS#2, and WM1A later on. Now still charging for the first time. The screen-protector is a bit of a hassle to install. I got one annoying bubble, But overall it's OK.

Just snapped an AK70 MK II for $600 USD with shipping - worked out to be $850 Canadian with shipping and tax..... Wheeeeeeee!!!

Now the waiting game begin

I agree that their pricing is mostly ridiculous, especially the BlueNote edition of AK240 in Japan (~$7k now down to $2k). But at the same time, they are very successful in business, which means their pricing scheme was nasty but clever and successful to establish their bland shooting for the high-end market.
Anyway, I'm a sucker to those crazy pricing. That's why I own 3 AK DAPs and 4 Ultrasone Edition HPs...

In my understanding, AK JH Rosie has 8 BAs, no 6 BA option.
