Astell & Kern AK70 MKII with dual DAC

Was also looking at the Sony ZX300 as my next DAP, which had stolen my attention from looking at a used AK70 (mk I)... now all of a sudden it looks like A&K have my attention again. Fantastic timing from a business point of view, as I'm sure I'm not the only one!

You should also consider the upcoming Cowon Plenue R! It is cheaper but still packs some very nice features. I also want to change DAPs and was considering the ZX300 and AK 70 MKII, but the 24/96 limitation of the AKs USB Dac is a no-no for me...

Hadn't heard about the Plenue R. I'll have a good look at that too! Thanks

Seems no native DSD, by software only

@Albator75000 That is for compatibility and "driverless" use on USB 1.0, I wonder if they'll release an update that will allow for USB 2.0 and full 24/192.

Thanks for the info! But seriously who cares about installing a driver? It seems really odd to me to have a 192 kHz capable chip and not exploit its full potential... Even if they roll an update afterwards I would feel like buying an unfinished product, as I use my DAP a lot as a Desktop DAC.

I understood it is resampled to 24/176 PCM by the CPU before playback. I don't really know much about DSD but I suppose it takes the (possible) advantages out?

people who tried the demo unit said it is the unit which used all the remaining component of 240 to make it, without native DSD

@bluedolphin The shell is basically the same as the previous one only 2mm thicker and approximately 25g heavier (sorry I don't know the US measurements system)

Agreed, and I'd want ASIO driver. My X5iii allows for 24/192 via USB as a DAC... too bad there are so many other irritating issues with the device.

Now isn't this a kick in the trousers!?

My Hidizs AP60 supports 24/192KHz via USB DAC mode. I don't recall loading a driver for this either.

@WayTooCrazy This is just ridiculous! It is a rather expensive product and it is disappointing the see the absence of key features in this new release from AK.. The Plenue R seems to have the same issue though.

I'd be interested in this if I know it can support that new 512gb micro ad card.

Now if they could release this one in True Blue like they did in japan with Ak70
I like AK70 in green, but Ak70 MKii in black also look good
Ak70 MKII True blue world wide would be Funny to have

If I'm not mistaken the largest capacity mico sd card available (newly released by Sandisk) is "only" 400Gb.
