The last update that I received was the QA team had about 40 different brands of cables that they are testing on each player for compatibility and are in the process of putting together a list of recommended cables. The US team sent a number here for testing and also the UK and Japan teams I believe. I will follow up for a status update when they are back in the office Monday morning.
Thank you Jason!

Hi @JasonNYC, on the astel kern site says se200 is roon ready, but I didn't get any software update and don't see it on the list of network devices. Is there any special thing I need to do to enable it?

Se200 doesn't have changeable modules.

It would be great it A&K that type of announce. @JasonNYC in this links, https://roonlabs.com/partners/astellkern , roon is saying that is supported on SE200, can you confirm that?
Unfortunately I do not have any info. I received an email from the Roon team late Friday saying they posted the SE200. It was a week long holiday in Korea last week, so the HQ office is closed. As far as I know, they were not aware Roon certified it and posted it. I have been waiting for more info before sharing it.

I was certainly hoping in the recent lull in hardware releases that more devices would get "Roon Ready" support, especially the loyal customers who purchased devices when the support was announced (Kann, SR15)... We have been waiting since late 2018.

The SE200 has been Roon Ready certified. Firmware will be released soon enabling Roon Ready support. It typically takes 2 weeks from certification for the new firmware to roll out, but might be delayed an additional week due to the release of the SP2000T. I will provide another update once a firm date is confirmed.

My SE200 is almost a year old and has been updated to latest version (firmware 1.23CM). However when I try to add a track as favorite from my SD card, I always get a message "unable to add item during media scanning" . Also the Timer section is not working, though auto power off is set to ten minutes, it stays power on forever. Tried System Reset -> Factory Data Reset but those menu items seems to be disabled/non functional. I have a 1tb sandisk SD card (A2) is installed. Tried without SD card, still the issue persists and I am seeing a message "Your SD card is read only, please change or repair your SD Card".

Has anyone faced these issues? Appreciate your response.

If that’s true I definitely own the right DAP. My IEMs deliver the perfect amount of bass, no need to emphasize that part of the spectrum haha.

Guys, please take 1 thing into account. The AKM side is much louder than the ESS side of the SE200. Difference is about 7 volume steps!

In a blind test with 2 equal devices, equal source etc where 1 device was only 0.2 - 1db louder listeners found the louder device much better! I bet nobody here really performs a good and valid A/B test, sorry. Even streaming services etc. have different volume. That’s why the exact same song might sound better in the “louder“ service.

I know, nobody wants to hear that on head-fi :dt880smile:

I'm new to DAPs and as such, have no preference to any manufacture and I'm still in a position to return this if I don't like it for the next 3-4 weeks. I've been running in the SE200 for about 18hrs now but the difference between AKM & ESS was very obvious even after taking into account the the +7 vol. Using unbalanced at the moment.

Headphone wise, I come from using PGGB files & Fibre connected HQPlayer server into an opticalRendu connected via TQ Silver Diamond USB & SRC-DX + Dual BNC into a TT2. Headphones are Meze Empyrean. Speakers via Chord Etude.

Based on the first couple of hours use I'd have returned the SE200 but I know it needs to be run in first and even after 18hrs it is sounding better. I'll be giving it a fair crack of the whip though as I want a portable/ish option.

The AKM side nearly produces a similar deep rumble that the TT2 does with the Empyrean.... so there is hope as things settle. It doesn't have the same texture /detail etc but it is good and lets face it, given the price difference you wouldn't expect anything else. Going to the ESS and adding the +7. it does sound flatter for EDM but I'm not going to do any real comparisons until both sides are burned in a lot more as it seems it will be better suited for other genres

I'd imagine the right DAP will be very dependent on what you are using in terms of HP's. I avoided all DAPs that reported warmer sound on the basis the Empyrean is on the warmer side, although the silver cable does dial it back a lot.

What I like at the moment is I can still use HQPlayer with PGGB files with the DAP buts calling them down from 768 - 384 and that sounded very good from the word go. Should be interesting to see how things work out once it all beds in.

I'm not a fan of Android. I stopped using Android years ago and it still has the same feel to it. Nice hardware that deserves it's own OS with no side loaded apps (qobuz user). I find the screen is more than good enough... only used briefly to select music and not used while listening. Good size and weight. No issues with buttons although vol dial is a little stiff.

At this moment, my main concern is streaming support. It would be the first and last A&K DAP if they only gave 3-5 years support and then it was abandoned. Given the £, I'd expect more than that. We'll see how it goes but if not this, it'll be a Hugo 2 connected to a phone / MacBook Pro for PGGB files. However, I like how I can just pick this up and easily use it anywhere but I don't want to sacrifice to much SQ.

Edit.... also, does the SE200 have Roon support yet. The Roon website says it's "Roon Ready" but not sure if I've seen anything from A&K to confirm this?!?

@JasonNYC Ok... could you explain what maybe happening here.

I assumed the SE200 DACs had a max of 384kHz... however, I just connected a PCIe M.2 drive full of PGGB files (wav @24Bit 768kHz) and it is playing them. Above the artwork it displays the 24bit / 768kHz file.

Is this actually playing at this rate or, is its scaling it down but just reporting the higher rate?!? They sound extremely good and if it is playing them without downscaling them, then this changes things a lot.

Oh... and is the SE200 "Roon Ready" as claimed on the Roon Website? Scratch that, just seen your comments above. Just leaves the question regarding Wave 24/768 frequency.
Cheers
