Are signatures out of control?

i just turned off the sig view option. have never done it before. what an odd feeling. not really better for instead of a sig, there is just a huge blank space. think i will go back.

Another forum I frequent, does not believe in signatures or avatars and I must admit it looks quite clean.

Where's the personality though. I think as technology evolves we are just devolving back to the "DOS" look.

Agreed. For example if you look at my avatar+sig, you would think "oh this person must be like a Bach person". It has so much more color, and sigs aren't really taking up that much space.

Speaking as a member...

1. Sigs should be limited to the standard font, color=black, in size=1
2. Limited to 10 lines or less.
3. No ASCII art.
4. Anyone who turns off the view-sig parameter for themselves should have the contents of their own signature automatically deleted so that others don't have to subjected to it (without having to turn off their own view-sig paramter).

Colors & multiple font sizes do not make your sig more readable. Neither do the more artistic separators some people use. In fact, just the opposite.

IMHO.

Posts should automatically be deleted if they are shorter than the poster's signature.

Now, that is funny. In an evil kind of way.

I think knowing what gear someone is familiar with is more useful to head-fi than knowing what PC they play games on...

I thought that's what our profiles were for.

I'm capable mouse-clicking once if I'm interested. Seriously.

I mean why do you have a list of your equipment, if not to show people the equipment you are experienced with so they know where you're coming from. As a service to the people who read your posts, so they don't have to open your profile?
